Description Basic science research furthers our understanding, while clinical research may offer clinicians new tools or approaches for the treatment of headache patients. The Second Annual CME Meeting of the Southern Headache Society, Advances in Headache Medicine will focus on recent advances in the field of Headache Medicine, as well as review the foundations for advanced treatment of headache patients. The curriculum is intended both for participants with advanced knowledge of Headache Medicine, as well as those with more fundamental knowledge. The focus of the meeting is on clinical topics such as migraine therapies and neurologic aspects of headache, supplemented by basic science lectures of interest to the clinician arranged in three educational tracks: Fundamentals of Advanced Care, Strategies for Headache Management, and Behavioral Medicine. The meeting is designed to maximize interaction of colleagues with dialogue, innovative lecture formats, and small group workshops. Objectives Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to: Identify new, upcoming, and novel treatments for acute and preventive treatment of migraine Apply diverse hormonal strategies for women with migraine Describe the role of sleep disorders in headache, including evaluation and treatment Recognize neuro-ophthalmologic and vascular aspects of secondary headache Relate animal models of migraine research to clinical medicine Distinguish among types of vertigo in migraine patients, including their evaluation and management Utilize evidence-based medicine to manage cluster headaches Assess important headache-related research of 2012 Credit Continuing Medical Education Accreditation: The Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) is accredited by the North Carolina Medical Society to sponsor continuing education for physicians.
