History of ED The concept first expounded by Professor Umberto Veronesi at the Congress EUSOMA Paris 1993 ED started life as an educational project of the European School of Oncology First Conference of independent organisation ED in 1994 in Milan - Delegates from 20 European countries

EUROPA DONNA's Ten Goals 1 To promote the dissemination and exchange of factual, up-todate information on breast cancer throughout Europe To promote breast cancer awareness To emphasise the need for appropriate screening and early detection To campaign for provision of optimal treatment To ensure quality supportive care throughout and after treatment

EUROPA DONNA's Ten Goals 2 To advocate appropriate training of health professionals To acknowledge good practice and promote its development To demand regular quality assessment of medical equipment To ensure that all women fully understand any proposed treatment option,including entry into clinical trials, and their right to a second opinion To promote the advancement of breast cancer research

Organisation 1 The European Breast Cancer Coalition is an independent non-profit organisation whose members are affiliated groups from countries throughout Europe.

It is affiliating 29 national forums Organisation 2 Forums autonomous units, which are choosing the sequence of importance of the 10 goals ED by themselves, and are Participating in conferences, workshops and NEWS ED

Realisation of 10 goals: Activities 1 Development of educational projects Organisation of practical workshops Organisation of International Conference every two years Participation in International Conferences

Activities 2 ED worked in partnership with EUSOMA and EORTC Co-chaired the first, second and third European Conference on Breast Cancer

Activities 3 Each year ED organises for the members of national forums the European Breast Cancer Advocacy Training Course.

Activities 4 Other activities of ED with the aim: to make available for all women in Europe equal access to best practice in breast cancer service, i.e. early detection of the disease and immediate treatment.
