A Meridian Based Therapy with a wide range of applications. Connects Mind, Body and Emotions via the Body's Energy System. Quick and easy to learn. Often has fast results Has a High Success Rate (80-90%) Works well in conjunction with other therapies. 4
EFT comes under the general heading of Energy Psychology And is based on the principal of using the mind to tune into, and connect to the problem. Then we treat the energy system to clear the problem. 5
What is the Meridian System? 6
It is this energy system that an Acupuncturist works on when they insert needles into certain points on the body. In EFT we don't use needles We use the mind to tune into the problem and then we gently tap on the energy points. 7
A Brief History of EFT In 1979 a psychologist named Dr Roger Callahan developed TFT Thought Field Therapy And this is how TFT came about... 8
In the early 1990's a student of Dr Callahan Gary Craig - an engineer and Performance Coach refined the process, and called it The Emotional Freedom Technique - EFT 9
AAMET The Association for the Advancement of Meridian Energy Techniques The Largest professional EFT Association worldwide. Was founded in 1999 and have set in place standards of training for its members. All AAMET Practitioners have had their qualifications validated and have signed up to the AAMET Code of Conduct and Ethics 10
How do we do the process? Why does it work? How can it benefit you in your business? 11
EFT is also a self-help therapy. You can learn to do it for yourself If you don't have the success that you hoped for, it could be that you haven't got to the root of the problem and then it is always helpful to have a practitioner to guide you through the process. 12
The Recipe Chose a title to work on write it down Take a SUDS reading subjective units of discomfort 1-10 - write the number down Then we tap on the points while we talk about the problem 13
The Downside It looks a little weird The Upside It works! Many professionals are using this technique Medical Professionals are recommending it, top coaches - Jack Canfield, Tony Robins and many more use and teach it. And there are ways to do it so it is not noticeable and sometimes, depending on the problem, you can 'park' the problem and go back to it when you have the time. 14

What is this tapping doing? Dr. Fred Gallo who has been practising in clinical psychology since 1974 and who uses EFT in his practice and has written about it in his books explains it this way. It has to do with the Amygdala which acts like a switch between different parts of the brain. EFT helps you switch from 'fight / flight / freeze' which is a stress reaction to a more intellectual response, using a different part of the brain to solve the problem. 16
The Basic parts of the brain that we need to know about. The human brain is 3 brains all interconnected yet each has a distinct function. The innermost core and stem called the Reptile Brain On top of this is the Mammal Brain Surrounding these 2 parts is the Primate Brain and Frontal lobes. 17
The Reptile Brain This part of the brain has to do with basic survival and the automatic 'flight / fight reaction. This part is emotionless and reacts with the environment. Like a reptile. But we do need it, because it is also responsible for brain functions such as blood circulation and breathing. 18
The Mammal Brain The Mammal Brain is that part of the brain that is over the Reptile Brain core and adds to mammals the processes of emotions, social behaviours and basic nurturing. A Mammal Brain ( cats, dogs etc.) flicks back and forth between reptilian reactions and social cooperative actions without self-choice. 19
The bulk of the human brain,is the Primate Brain it covers the inner reptile brain and Mammal Brain core. The advanced primate brain in humans computes language, music, art, maths, refined motor skills and ideas The Frontal lobes compute creativity, planning, foresight, imagination, concepts of time and allows us to be concerned with things outside our immediate environment. 20
The Frontal Lobes The Frontal Lobes in humans allow us a high level of reason, organization and complex behaviours. The Frontal Lobes see cause and effect F and process thoughts and actions based on this 21
The Function of the Amygdala Dr Alan P. Brauer of Stanford University and Medical Center and the Stanford Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences has proved that you stimulate and control the brain, including the amygdala by consciously directing thought. 22
The amygdala can be seen as a 'click switch' that turns on either reptile brain flight/flight or allows frontal lobes intelligence. It seems that only humans are able to make this choice. 23
When you can click your amygdala forward you get Creativity,Cooperation and Intelligence = Pleasure When you click your amygdala backwards you get Non-thinking, Reactive Behaviour, Attack = Pain Frontal lobes thought production does not make a person oblivious to dangerous or threatening situations.- Frontal lobe thought allows you to stay a step ahead 24
How do you know when you are clicked backwards? You don't feel good. You feel worried, stressed, anxious, tense... All these feelings are telling you that you are not fully in your Frontal Lobe area. These are the feelings that you can address with EFT. Dr Gallo said that EFT clicks the Amygdala At first you may only feel a subtle shift, but the more you do this you will be amazed at how the answers to your problems pop into your head. Most of the time we already have an answer to our problems, but we are not in the right 'brain' to access it 25
Past events holding you back? Sometimes we have information associated with a past event stored in our subconscious mind that causes us to react instead of respond, and so we often get the same results re-occurring in our lives. Very often we are not even aware of what is causing us to behave in this way, but the good news is that being aware of our results and our patterns and our feelings is half the battle. You can consciously 'forward click' and consciously move from reptilian brain thinking to frontal lobe thinking. 26
Daily exercise There are exercises that you can do on a daily basis that will help keep you in frontal lobe thinking. EFT Gratitude lists Affirmations Meditation These things need not take hours of your time, a few minutes every day can make a huge difference. You will also become more aware of what you are really feeling and thinking every moment of the day, and the reasons for thought pattern. 27
Modern Stress is a major contributor to why we don't perform at our best. Have you ever felt frozen and unable to remember how to solve a problem? Do you get an anxious feeling when you see your accounts? Do you procrastinate and just can't get started on a project? The reason is that when stress strikes, your body goes into what is called the flight / fight / mode. Large parts of your brain literally shut down. 28
Dr. Robert Scaer, a neurologist who has researched traumatic stress, has found that the 'freeze' response encapsulates stress in our bodies, preventing us from moving on after a stressful event until we find a way to release the stress that is literally lodged in our bodies, in the muscles and even the cells. 29
This is how it works: Something stressful happens earthquake, accident, you loose your job, someone dies, etc. Or you start thinking I'm working hard, but I'm not getting the results I don't have enough money to pay my bills The boss doesn't like me and wants to get rid of me etc... 30
Within seconds of having these thoughts that little amygdala, the almond-shaped little organ on either side of your brain, usually sends a message to the reptile brain and your body releases stress hormones. Adrenaline and Cortisol floods your body shutting down the creative problem solving parts of your brain, slowing down your digestion, constricting blood vessels and more... Now the stress becomes physical. 31
It might feel as if our brains are working against us but not when we know what this flight / fight / freeze response was intended for. This response was intended for imminent danger - Not the modern day chronic stress most of us have. I have heard someone say that Trying to be creative while under chronic stress is like trying to think of creative ways to reach or serve more clients while running for your life. 32
Have you ever notice how a fantastic idea will pop into your head when you are on a relaxing holiday? Or when you are taking a walk? Or when you weren't thinking about work at all? This is because when you are safe and relaxed the Frontal Lobes part of your brain your creative brain, is open and working on solutions - just the way it was designed to. This is why time out, holidays and meditation is so good for you. 33
What would happen to the way you operate your business if you had an easy way to reduce stress every day and even in the moment, so that your Creative Brain could come to your help instead of the Reptile Brain and a flood of stress hormones? EFT is a reliable way to reduce stress so that you get the full benefit of your brain's capacity. You don't have to wait for that perfect moment of relaxation, because the tapping can put you in that fully operational state in minutes. You can 'tell' your amygdala that you are safe and that you need your creative brain to solve problems for you. 34
Stress has become a pattern Tapping can change those pattern. Tapping can re-program our thinking. 35
The tapping process can be learned and implemented in a matter of minutes But the beauty and the real change comes form the process of uncovering what's really going on... As this workshop is about EFT in you business, Things to think about could be... What are your patterns around money? What causes you to stress? What causes you to keep sabotaging yourself? What is keeping you scattered and unfulfilled? 36
These are answers that we can get from doing EFT. Then we can retrain our brain and body to act and react differently. When we make these changes then our lives change in many ways. What is your 'story' around money? Do you have a fear about money Is your fear a fear of failure or a fear of success? 37
The answers to these questions could be shaping our experiences around the level of our Success, Our productivity Or Procrastination 38
EFT can help you recognise what your unconscious beliefs are around success and how they have been preventing you from growing at the pace you know is possible. It is about uncovering the stress that is having a neurological effect on your body and brain. We can change when we acknowledge the truth about how we feel. Then we can implement the plans and strategies that move us forward seemingly effortlessly, because we no longer have to battle the stress hormones and try to think creatively at the same time 39
