ore s.) ore Faculty: this conference is meant to review the basic core curriculum of rheumatology. ll faculty members and fellows will be responsible for presenting topics. This series will also contain basic science relevant to rheumatology including immunology. linical topics will include: rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma/systemic sclerosis, polymyositis/dermatomyositis, spondyloarthropathies, vasculitis, crystal-induced synovitis, osteoarthritis, regional musculoskeletal pain syndromes, acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain syndromes, nonarticular rheumatic diseases (including fibromyalgia), nonsurgical, exercise-related (sports) injury, systemic diseases with rheumatic manifestations, metabolic disease of bone, osteoporosis, infection of joints and soft tissues, Sjogren s syndrome..) ore: Basic Science /Immunology the objectives of this conference are to present didactic sessions on basic sciences to fellows relevant to clinical practice and to develop the application of basic sciences to clinical medicine. Topics will include: innate immunity, humoral immunity, antigen processing and presentation, B cells, T cells, cytokines, integrins, rheumatic serology. This conference will be held monthly and will be part of the core conference series. 3.) ore: Research /Quality Improvement this conference will include discussion of ongoing fellow research and Quality Improvement projects, promoting discussion for future projects. This conference is held every other month 4.) ore: P/Morbidity and Mortality this conference will focus on active cases for current housestaff and attendings. It will include patient presentations with relevant lab, xray and pathology. Management topics will be discussed. This conference will be held every 6 months, and is part of the core conference series. 5.) ore: Multi-disciplinary this conference will host outside lecturers from the following fields: physical and occupational therapy, ophthalmology, dermatology, pathology, neurology, orthopedics (hand, shoulder, foot, hip), allergy, pediatrics, sports medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, geriatrics and pharmacology. This conference is held monthly, as part of the core conference series. 6.) ore: Fellow s this is a one hour conference presented by the fellow on a topic of his or her choice, with approval of the program director. Interesting cases are presented for discussion and x-rays reviewed. It is held once 4.) Renal-Rheumatology this is a joint conference, with nephrology, pathology and rheumatology where we discuss a clinical case, look at the pathology and review the literature. The individual will be assigned a journal club date and they are responsible for choosing relevant and interesting articles to review from a selected list of journals. This conference is held once or twice monthly, and is part of the core conference series..) Musculoskeletal Radiology this interactive conference will be held with the bone radiologists. Interesting cases from the section will be reviewed and unknown cases presented to the fellows. 3.) Musculoskeletal Ultrasound and Osteoporosis this is a set of two distinct curricula that we repeat yearly. In MSUS, you will review a text book, have live scanning opportunities and spend time in the cadaver lab to practice intervention. In the osteoporosis curriculum, you will study from a textbook, learn the fundamentals of DX and also how to read DX. These conferences occur weekly. 4.) Fellowship Review Meeting this meeting is attended by the fellows, program director and coordinator and is meant to review certain aspects of the curriculum, including goals and objectives, duty hours, didactics, UNM issues, OVH issues, research updates, system based practice projects, portfolios, and administrative issues. We also trouble shoot when issues arise and get fellow input into ways in which we can improve the program. This meeting is held 5.) Kelley lub this conference includes reading assignments from the Kelley Textbook of Rheumatology, with a quiz written by a fellow over the assignment. t the completion of the fellowship, we will have read the majority of the textbook. This conference is held twice 6.) Visiting Professor this conference will bring in rheumatologic specialists with national expertise to discuss various topics in rheumatology. This conference will take place quarterly. 4
7.) Internal Medicine Grand Rounds this conference is sponsored by the Department of Internal Medicine and is held weekly. 8.) Internal Medicine Noon this conference is sponsored by the Department of Internal Medicine and is held twice weekly. Fellows are not required to attend regularly; however, attendance will be required when issues pertinent to rheumatology are presented. **The Didactic series (including core conferences, basic science/immunology conferences, fellow s conferences, P, and when available multi-disciplinary conferences) will be available electronically on the rheumatology homepage for review. Topics will cycle on a year calendar. 5
