Health Information Human Health Safety Assessment Effect Assessment Acute Toxicity Irritation Sensitization Mutagenicity Toxicity after repeated exposure Toxicity for reproduction Result Virtually nontoxic after a single ingestion, after a single skin contact or by inhalation. Not irritating to the skin or to the eyes. Skin sensitizing effects were not observed in animal studies. The substance was not mutagenic in mammalian cell culture. The statement has been derived from products of a similar structure or composition. The substance was not mutagenic in bacteria. No adverse effects were observed after repeated inhalative exposure in animal studies. High amounts may cause a specific damage to organs through repeated oral or dermal exposure. The results of animal studies gave no indication of a fertility impairing effect. The statement has been derived from products of a similar structure or composition. In animal studies the substance caused malformations. Note: For more information on the health hazards of this substance and recommended protective equipment, please refer to the relevant (M)SDS Environmental Information Environment Safety Assessment Effect Assessment Aquatic Toxicity Persistence and degradability Bioaccumulation potential Result With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic life. Readily biodegradable. Not bioaccumulative. Note: For more information on the environmental hazards of this substance and recommended measures, please refer to the (M)SDS 2

Physical/Chemical Properties Phys/Chem Safety Assessment Diethylene glycol methyl ether is a colorless liquid with a mild, pleasant, and ether like odor. Diethylene glycol methyl ether is a combustible liquid without explosive properties. Property Physical state Melting / freezing point Boiling point Flash point Flammability Explosive properties Self ignition temperature Value Liquid 84 C at 1013 hpa 193 C at 1013 hpa 91 C at 1013 hpa Combustible liquid Non explosive 215 C at 1013 hpa Note: For further information, see the relevant (M)SDS Exposure Potential Workplace exposure: Exposure can occur either in a diethylene glycol methyl ether manufacturing facility or in the various industrial or manufacturing facilities that use diethylene glycol methyl ether. Those working with diethylene glycol methyl ether in manufacturing operations could be exposed during maintenance, sampling, testing, or other procedures. Workplace exposure is controlled and minimized by the use of proper occupational handling procedures and personal protection and safety equipment. Consumer exposure: There is no intended use of diethylene glycol methyl ether in consumer products. Therefore, a health hazard due to exposure for the consumer is negligible. Environmental exposure: Diethylene glycol methyl ether is readily biodegradable and will therefore be degraded within the wastewater treatment process. Furthermore, it is not expected to accumulate in the food chain. Conclusively, all identified uses are safe for the environment based on the scientific facts summarized above and when carried 3

out in compliance with recommended risk management measures and applicable regulations. Recommended Handling Measures Before handling or using this substance, please consult the relevant (M)SDS. It contains the required handling measures, emergency response information, medical information or treatment information. Regulatory Information / Classification and Labeling Regulations exist that govern manufacture, sales, transportation, use and disposal of diethylene glycol methyl ether. These regulations may vary by city, state, country or geographic region. Information can be found by consulting the relevant (M)SDS. Diethylene glycol methyl ether was registered under REACH Regulation in the EU. Under GHS substances are classified according to their physical, health, and environmental hazards. The hazards are communicated via specific labels and the (M)SDS. GHS attempts to standardize hazard communication so that the intended audience (workers, consumers, transport workers, and emergency responders) can better understand the hazards of the chemicals in use. Labeling according to UN GHS UN GHS is the basis for country specific GHS labeling Signal word: Warning Hazard statements: H227: Combustible liquid H361: Suspected of damaging the unborn child 4
