BMA 05
Please read this manual carefully before installing and using the BMA 05 safe measuring coupling. Wigersma & Sikkema warranty obligations do not apply in case of non-observance of this manual. 1 Introduction The safe measuring coupling BMA 05 is a component of the PLEXOR inspection system for pressure regulator stations, as are the PLEXOR test device and the EVDR 16 external inlet pressure regulator. The BMA 05 shall be placed on the input side of the pressure regulator station, at an input pressure between 16 and 100 bar. This coupling can be used in combination with the purpose-built PLEXOR connecting hose or together with the EVDR 16 external inlet pressure regulator. A union nut facilitates easy and safe connection and disconnection to and from a pressure regulator station. Connection and disconnection are safe as no gas can escape and, when disconnected, the safe measuring coupling automatically returns to the operational position. 2 Technical data Part code : O79000 DVGW approval : DG-4513BM0086 Pressure class : PN 100 Nominal width : DN 4 Connection : G 3/8 (DIN 3852-2) Service temperature : -20 C to +60 C Data Label Service life : > 10.000x connecting and disconnecting operations Materials : Enclosure/ AlMgSiBi, Protective cap/pom, Piston slide/stainless steel, Sealing /NBR DVGW quality mark 3 Safety measures Work according to applicable regulations and guidelines. The user of the PLEXOR inspection system must be qualified in agreement with the nationwide regulations to perform the functional inspections on a pressure regelator station. Before using the device, the user must have a PLEXOR inspection system training. Please contact Wigersma & Sikkema. 4 Mounting The safe measuring coupling BMA 05 can best be mounted horizontally in the forward position, to reduce the chance of internal and external contamination. As illustrated in fig. 1 the BMA 05 shall be positioned such that there is sufficient room for easy connection to the EVDR 16 external inlet pressure regulator or the PLEXOR connecting hose. The duct to which the BMA 05 is mounted shall be able to withstand the weight (approx. 1.6 kg) of the EVDR 16 external inlet pressure regulator. The BMA 05 is mounted on a fitting with G 3 /8 (DIN 3852-2/11) thread by means of an openend wrench no. 27. The sealing ring may be copper or elastomeric. 5 Use 5.1 Connecting Take the following steps to connect the external inlet pressure regulator EVDR 16 to the safe measuring coupling BMA 05: Unscrew the protective cap from the BMA 05. Connect the EVDR 16 to the BMA 05 as indicated by the EVDR 16 manual. Or take the following steps to connect the PLEXOR connecting hose to the safe measuring coupling BMA 05: Unscrew the protective cap from the BMA 05. Unscrew the protective plug from the PLEXOR connecting hose. Screw the union nut of the PLEXOR connecting hose on to the BMA 05 till a slight resistance can be felt (approx. 4-5 strokes/2 turns). Connect the other end of the PLEXOR connecting hose to the PLEXOR test device. For this, refer to PLEXOR test device manual. Continue to screw the union nut of the PLEXOR connecting hose to the BMA 05 until it is hand-tight. Now a safe connection has been made between the inlet side of the pressure regulator station and the PLEXOR test device. 5.2 Disconnecting Take the following steps to disconnect the external inlet pressure regulator EVDR 16 from the safe measuring coupling BMA 05: Disconnect the EVDR 16 from the BMA 05 as indicated by the EVDR 16 manual. Or take the following steps to disconnect the PLEXOR connecting hose from safe measuring coupling BMA 05: Loosen the union nut of the PLEXOR connecting hose by 4 or 5 strokes (2 turns). De-aerate the PLEXOR test device. For this, refer to the PLEXOR test device manual. Completely loosen and remove the union nut of the PLEXOR connecting hose. Screw the protective plug back into the PLEXOR connecting hose. Finally, for both options, take the following steps: Screw the protective cap back on to the BMA 05. Check the position of the piston slide in the BMA 05. In the operating position the position indicator shall protrude slightly from the protective cap 6 Maintenance 6.1 General Maintenance of the safe measuring coupling BMA 05 is restricted to replacing the O ring. The expected service life of the O ring is at least 20 years. 3
6.2 Disassembly, assembly To replace the O ring the following materials are required: Hexagonal key for 6-mm hexagon socket. Tools to remove and place O rings. New O ring. Lubricant. Degreasant. Disassembly (see fig. 2): Remove the spring retaining ring (no. 5). Carefully push the piston slide (no. 4) from the enclosure (no. 2) and remove the O ring (no. 1) Assembly (see fig. 2): Carefully clean all the parts and degrease the piston slide (no. 4), enclosure (no. 2) and adapter fitting (no. 5). Grease the O ring (no. 1) with prescribed lubricant (no. 10). Place the new O ring (no. 1) on to the piston slide (no. 4). Replace the piston slide (no. 4) into the enclosure (no. 2). Replace the spring (no. 3) back into the enclosure (no. 2). Screw the spring retaining ring (no. 5) into the enclosure (no. 2) and tighten. 1 O ring 2 Enclosure 3 Spring 4 Piston slide 5 Spring retaining ring 6 Protective cap 7 Spring 8 Quick locking ring 9 Position indicator 10 Smeermiddel Fig. 2: Cross-section of the safe measuring coupling BMA 05. 6.3 Functional check Smooth running check of the piston slide Smooth running of the piston slide in the BMA 05 can easily be checked by actuating the position indicator. No gas will escape when the position indicator is actuated. Leak tightness check Once pressure has been put on the BMA 05 and the protective cap has been removed, the BMA 05 can be checked for leak tightness. To do this, the connector is subjected to a bubble test using leakage detection fluid. After this check, the BMA 05 shall be dried and the protective cap be placed back in position. 4
