3 NobelDesign 1.3 Installation guide // English Before you start Before you start the installation of NobelDesign on a Windows computer, please do the following: Make sure you have a NobelProcera 2G Scanner available, running either the Optimet 1.13.4 or the Optimet 1.13.5 Software. Check whether or not NobelProcera Software was previously installed on the computer you wish to use for NobelDesign. If so, please continue with Installation on a Windows computer with NobelProcera 4.13 already installed on page 6. If not, please continue with Installation on a Windows computer that does not have NobelProcera Software already installed on page 4. Check whether your computer meets the minimum system requirements. More information on these requirements can be found in the Computer Guidelines for NobelDesign document. Please contact your Nobel Biocare representative to request a digital or printed copy of the latest version. Check that your computer has access to the Internet. Check whether your Windows version is up to date. Make sure that your computer can view PDF files (double-click on a PDF file to test). Adobe Reader is an example of software typically used to read PDF files. Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights. Disable the Windows User Account Control. We also recommend that all other software on your computer is closed before you start installing the NobelDesign software.

4 NobelDesign 1.3 Installation guide // English Installation on a Windows computer that does not have NobelProcera Software already installed Installing the NobelDesign Software 1. Double-click on NobelDesign.exe. 2. The NobelDesign install program will search your computer for prerequisites. You will see a list of required items that need to be installed on your computer. Click Install to continue. Should you wish to abort the installation procedure, click Cancel. The progress of the installation is shown for each prerequisite. 3. The prerequisites are now installed. A welcome message for the NobelDesign install wizard appears. Click Next. 4. The NobelDesign End-User License Agreement is displayed. Read it carefully. You can also print this information. To accept the agreement, click on I accept the terms in the license agreement. 5. Then click Next. Otherwise, click Cancel to abort the installation procedure. 6. Choose a Destination folder for the NobelDesign Software. This is the folder where the software files will be saved. By default, the destination folder is C:\Program Files\Nobel Biocare\NobelDesign. If you want to change this location, click on Change, browse to the desired folder and click OK. Then click Next. Note: This NobelDesign version does not support non-latin characters in the path name. 7. Should you want to review or change any of your installation settings, click Back. Otherwise, click Install to start the installation. This may take several minutes. A progress bar is shown. 8. Once the installation wizard is completed, click Finish. 9. Connect the scanner to your computer and switch it on. The Windows drivers are being installed automatically. Note: It is of major importance that the scanner is always connected to the same USB port. When you plug the scanner into a port other than the one used during the installation, for example when moving the scanner to a different location, it will not work. Be sure to note down or label the port the scanner is plugged into. 10. Look for the Optimet.NetworkConfigurator.exe file in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\optimet\dental Scanner. Right-click the file and choose Run as administrator. 11. In the User Properties dialog enter your User name and your Domain name (or your computer name if you work in a workgroup). 12. Click OK. 13. Select the correct network interface card LAN9500 USB 2.0 to Ethernet 10/100 adapter and click OK. If this network interface card is not yet shown, wait until the USB device driver software is installed and the LAN9500 USB 2.0 to Ethernet 10/100 adapter appears. 14. A NobelDesign icon is now available on your desktop. Right-click it and select Run as administrator. 15. The NobelDesign End-User License Agreement is displayed once more. Click on I accept the terms in the license agreement. 16. Enter the installation key. 17. Click Next. 18. Select a Working folder. This is the location where you will save your NobelDesign cases. Note: If you create a Working folder in the Local AppData folder, make sure there are no spaces in the path name. Please, also note that this NobelDesign version does not support non-latin characters in the path name. 19. Click Next, and then click Finish.

5 20. A website with the Instructions for Use in a printable format available in different languages is displayed. Choose your language and read these instructions carefully. Double-click the NobelDesign icon to start the software. Alternatively, start NobelDesign by clicking the Windows Start button, browsing the list of all programs and clicking on the NobelDesign option to start the software. Before you start designing in NobelDesign, make sure your dongle is connected to your workstation. At all times the End-User License Agreement is available in the About dialog within the NobelDesign Software, under the NobelDesign menu. In the same menu you will also find the Instructions for Use document in a printable format.

6 NobelDesign 1.3 Installation guide // English Installation on a Windows computer with NobelProcera 4.13 already installed There are two options to use NobelDesign 1.3 and NobelProcera Software 4.13 on the same Windows 7 (64 bit) computer. If you use an older version of NobelProcera, please upgrade to NobelProcera 4.13 first. Option 1 (preferred option): Make a new partition with a new Windows installation. The procedure to make a new partition is described here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/install-multiple-operating-system-multiboot#1tc=windows-7. Then follow the procedure as described in Installation on a Windows computer that does not have NobelProcera Software already installed on page 4. This way, NobelProcera Software stays on the already existing operating system, and NobelDesign is installed on a newly created operating system. The advantage of this setup is that NobelProcera Software and NobelDesign can be installed on the same computer without interfering with each other. This is a future-proof approach. However, when swapping from NobelProcera to NobelDesign and vice versa, a reboot of the computer is needed. If rebooting is an issue, please contact local support. Option 2: Install both software packages on the same Windows installation, as described below. Installing the NobelDesign Software 1. Disconnect the scanner s USB cable from your computer. 2. Double-click on NobelDesign.exe. 3. The NobelDesign install program will search your computer for prerequisites. You will see a list of required items that need to be installed on your computer. 4. Switch from NobelDesign to the NobelProcera Software If you wish to switch to the NobelProcera Software while working with NobelDesign, take the following steps: 1. If NobelDesign is running, close the application by clicking the cross icon in the upper-right corner. 2. Stop the scanner service: Right-click the scanner tray app icon. Select Stop service from the menu. The scanner service is now stopped. It can take a couple of minutes to stop a service. 3. Exit the scanner service in the scanner tray app if the tray app is running: Right-click the scanner tray app icon. Select Exit from the menu. The scanner tray app is now closed. 4. Check whether or not Optimet is still running. If it is running, make sure you stop the service: Open the Task Manager. Select the Services tab. Right-click on the Optimet service and select Stop Service. Switch from NobelProcera Software to NobelDesign If you are working with the NobelProcera Software and you wish to start using NobelDesign, take the following steps: 1. Close the NobelProcera Software. 2. Start the scanner. 3. Start NobelDesign. 4. Check in the scanner tray app whether the scanner service is running and the scanner shows as connected. It might take a while before the scanner status is updated to connected. If it is not connecting, switch off the scanner, shut down the computer, boot the computer, switch on the scanner, and start NobelDesign. Note: NobelProcera 4.13 and NobelDesign 1.3 use the same drivers for the 2G Scanner, and hence can be installed on the same computer. Future upgrades of NobelDesign might require other drivers though, so continued use of the NobelProcera Software and NobelDesign on the same computer is not guaranteed for future versions.
