Educational Objectives 1. Summarize key PCIT research findings and recognize future directions. 2. Describe ways in which PCIT is an applicable treatment for children on the autism spectrum. 3. Utilize appropriate clinical strategies with children on the autism spectrum and their families. 4. Explain the role of medications with children with on the autism spectrum. About the Instructors: Dr. Carl Feinstein has devoted his career to young children, especially with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities, based at academic medical centers, where he has been a researcher, a teacher, a clinician, an advocate for autism and developmental disabilities, and a program director. He is currently a Clinical Professor at UCR School of Medicine and is the child psychiatrist associated with at Riverside University Health System Behavioral Health. Immediately prior to his work in Riverside, he was Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and a Professor at Stanford, University, where he also was the founder of the Stanford Autism Center at Packard Children s Hospital, where he remains an emeritus professor. Dr. Joshua Masse is an assistant professor of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in working with young children with behavioral difficulties and their families. He received his PhD in clinical child psychology from West Virginia University where he worked under the mentorship of Dr. Cheryl McNeil, an internationallyrecognized PCIT expert and co-author of the PCIT book series. Joshua completed an APAapproved pre-doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, the pediatric teaching hospital of Northwestern University. Dr. Masse's clinical and research interests lie
broadly in the areas of examining evidence-based treatments with specialized populations (e.g., autism spectrum disorder) and settings (e.g., home-based). In addition, his work focuses on the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based practices. He has presented PCIT research at international, national, and regional conferences. Dr. Masse has extensive experience training evidence-based treatments. He is one of twenty master trainers in the world certified by PCIT International. He serves as the Chair of the Policy and Advocacy Task Force for PCIT International. For several years he worked in partnership with Delaware's Division of Prevention and Behavioral Health Services training over 200 clinicians, students, and trainees in PCIT. In addition, he oversaw the development and implementation of a large scale Teacher-Child Interaction Training (TCIT) program and has vast experience training Child-Adult Relationship Enhancement (CARE) workshops. Dr. Masse currently resides in Bristol, RI with his wife, two young daughters, and a small terrier. Dr. Takesha J. Cooper, MD, is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the UC Riverside School of Medicine and Associate Medical Director for Mid County Region with Riverside University Health System Behavioral Health. She has also worked as an adjunct clinical instructor for the Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Cooper earned her BS in biochemistry and molecular biology from UC Santa Barbara and earned her master's degree at UC Riverside in the same fields. She earned her MD from Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, conducted her residency at the San Mateo Psychiatry Residency Training Program and completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Stanford University. She is board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and general psychiatry, is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, Southern California Psychiatric Society, American Psychiatric Association, and the American Medical Association. This course meets the qualification for (6.5 hours) of continuing education (CE) credit for: LMFTs and LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences PCE 3777. Riverside University Health System Behavioral Health (RUHS-BH) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for Psychologists. RUHS-BH maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This program is offering 6.5 credits for Psychologists.
