Muscles Built on the Maniken Facial Muscle Group 1. Temporalis O temporal fossa I anterior border of the ramus of the mandible A elevates the mandible (bite muscle) and holds jaw while at rest 2. Procerus O skin aponeurosis between the eyebrows I skin aponeurosis of the nose A what? muscle or huh? muscle forms wrinkles between the eyebrows 3. Orbicularis oculi O from medial palpebral ligament to attachments formed on subcutaneous tissue of skin surrounding the outer area of the orbit I skin and fascia of the eyelids A closes eyelids 4. Masseter O posterior edge of the zygomatic bone I vertical mandibular ramus and angle of jaw A BITE MUSCLE! 5. Buccinator O molar region of the maxilla and mandible I lateral edge of the orbicularis oris (corner of the mouth) A pulls the corners of the mouth laterally 6. Orbicularis oris O shared fascia with other facial muscles and indirectly anchors to the mandible & maxilla I skin and muscle of the lips A moves the lips to pronounce words and enhance facial expressions 7. Zygomaticus O zygomatic bone of zygomatic arch I the lateral corner of the Orbicularis oris A SMILE! 8. Depressor Anguli Oris O mandible, just below the lateral incisors I the lateral edge of the Orbicularis oris (corner of the mouth) A frown muscle (small muscle)

Deep Muscles of the Torso 1. Multifidus OI This is a simplified representation of the many (100s) muscles comprising this muscle (the rope of the vertebral column. A help control flexion, extension, and rotation of the spine 2. Intercostales (external only will be built) OI intercostals align themselves from lateral to medial (oblique muscles) in two layers A the internal intercostals help to depress the rib cage during a forced exhale (yawning, coughing, singing or during stressful exercise) 3. Serratus anterior O lateral surface of ribs 1 thru 8 I medial border of the scapula A pulls and rotates the scapula forward at many angles 4. Pectoralis minor O ventral side of ribs 3-5 I coracoids process of the scapula A pulls the scapula (shoulder) forward & downward 5. Rhomboideus minor O posterior end of the nuchal ligament & spinous processes of C7 T1 I vertebral border of the scapula at the medial end of the scapular spine A retracts the scapula (shoulder) and rotates it downward 6. Rhomboideus major O spinous processes of vertebrae T2 T5 I medial border of the scapula from the scapular spine to the caudal angle A retracts the scapula (shoulder) and rotates it downward 7. Levator scapula O transverse processes of vertebrae C1 C4 I superior medial border of the scapula and the superior angle A elevates scapula, and/or bends neck & can rotate head, I don t know shrug muscle 8. Quadratus lumborum O transverse processes of vertebrae L1 L4 and lower margin of the 12 th rib I iliac crest and iliolumbar fascia A alone: flexes vertebral column laterally; with back muscles: maintains upright posture

Superficial Power Muscles of the Torso 1. Lumbodorsal fascia Thick connective tissue used to increase surface area for attachment of large muscles Covers area from the coccyx up past T10 2. Latissimus dorsi O attaches through lumbodorsal fascia to the spinous processes of vertebrae T7 L5; also anchors to iliac crest and tubercles of ribs 9 12 I twists around the teres major and anchors onto the intertubercular groove of humerus A powerful arm adductor, extensor, and medially rotates the shoulder 3. Pectoralis major (3 parts, built separately, keep muscles thick (meaty), striate as built) Pectoralis major pars abdominalis O aponeurosis of external oblique muscles over the medial part of ribs 5-7 I lateral edge of the highest part of the intertubercular groove A rotates medially, extends, & adducts the shoulder (ex last part of a tennis serve) Pectoralis major pars sternocostalis O sternum and cartilage of ribs 1-7 I lateral edge of the middle part of the intertubercular groove A adducts the arm across the chest and pulls shoulder forward (ex tennis forehand) Pectoralis major pars clavicularis O the ventral surface of the clavicle I the bottom of the intertubercular groove A adducts the arm upward towards the face (ex uppercut in boxing) 4. Trapezius (also has 3 parts, build each one separately) Trapezius pars spinalis O spinous process of vertebrae T4 T12 (overlaps a small part of Latissimus dorsi) I posterior portion of the spine of the scapula A power muscle that pulls the scapula back and lateral rotation Trapezius pars acromialis O lower end of the nuchal ligament, spinous processes of vertebrae C6 T3 w/use of aponeurosis I medial margin of the acromial process and distal end of the scapular spine A power muscle that lifts the shoulder upward and back Trapezius pars clavicularis O begins at the superior part of the nuchal ligament (occipital bone to C6) I superior border of the last lateral third of the clavicle A elevates scapula and helps rotate it upward

Partial Rotator Cuff Group (Arm and Shoulder) 1. Teres minor O lateral margin of scapula (about midway) I greater tuberosity of humerus (the most dorsal facet) A rotates shoulder laterally ( sexy move ) 2. Infraspinatus O infraspinous fossa of scapula I greater tuberosity of humerus (middle facet) A rotates the shoulder laterally 3. Supraspinatus O supraspinous fossa of scapula I greater tuberosity of humerus (top facet) A abducts shoulder 4. Teres major (not a part of the rotator cuff group) O caudal facet on (tail) angle of dorsal scapula I medial edge of the bicepital groove of humerus below trapezius A rotates, extends, and adducts shoulder 5. Biceps brachii O short head from the coracoids process; long head from the supraglenoid tubercle I tuberosity of radius A flexion at elbow and shoulder; supination 6. Triceps brachii O lateral head from superior, lateral margin of humerus; long head from infraglenoid tubercle of scapula; medial head from posterior surface of humerus inferior to radial groove I olecranon of ulna A extension at elbow, extension and adduction at shoulder 7. Deltoid O clavicle and scapula (acromion and adjacent scapular spine) I deltoid tuberosity of humerus A abduction at shoulder, flexion and medial rotation

Thigh and Leg Muscles 1. Gluteus minimus O lower gluteal fossa of ilium I anterior facet of greater trochanter A abducts and medially rotates hip 2. Gluteus medius O upper gluteal fossa I lateral facet of greater trochanter A abducts hip 3. Peroneus longus O lateral tibial condyle spiraling down the lateral side of the fibula to wrap around lateral malleous of fibula I base of 1 st metatarsal and medial cuneiform A flexes ankle and everts foot (acts as pulley) 4. Interossei dorsales O sides of metatarsals I lateral base of toes A abducts toes (spreads toes apart) 5. Gastrocnemius O femoral condyles I calcaneus via calcaneal tendon A extension (plantar flexion) at ankle; inversion of foot; flexion at knee 6. Gluteus maximus O iliac crest, posterior gluteal line, & lateral surface of ilium; sacrum, coccyx & lumbodorsal fascia I iliotibial tract and gluteal tuberosity of femur A extension and lateral rotation of hip 7. Sartorius O anterior superior iliac spine I medial surface of tibia near tibial tuberosity A flexion at knee; flexion and lateral rotation at hip
