More than 25 percent of Americans age 60 and older have diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association. But another common condition, prediabetes, could affect an additional 50 percent of adults over age 65 and they don t even know it. He will discuss how hearing aids and Cochlear Implants mitigate the effects of hearing loss. Dr. Wallace will also explore how hearing loss may be associated with cognition, dementia, functional decline and social isolation. A light lunch will be served. Women s Health Clinic & Pap Screenings Wednesday, April 5, 9:00 a.m. Lyndhurst Municipal Annex 253 Stuyvesant Avenue, Lyndhurst, NJ Pap screenings are an important part of preventive care and early detection of cervical cancer. Women are encouraged to get regular Pap screenings by the age of 21. A Gynecologist from Clara Maass Medical Center will administer Pap screenings. And in recognition of National Public Health Week, a Clara Maass expert will provide instruction on how self-breast exams should be done. Living Well with Parkinson s Disease Parkinson s Disease Support Group and Workshop Sessions are held the second Wednesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Clara Maass Medical Center Cancer Center Conference Room 1 Clara Maas Drive, Belleville, NJ Living with Parkinson s Disease can be challenging. Participating in social and recreational activities can help your overall wellness. Joining a peer support group can help you learn to cope with stresses, build lasting relationships, and gain a sense of empowerment and control. This monthly meeting provides an opportunity to talk openly and honestly, aids in finding resources and answers to important questions, and allows one to be a significant participant of a meaningful group. Essential information regarding symptoms, treatments, and medication management will be discussed. Share your experiences and help others throughout this journey. This group is a space where you can talk openly about feelings and experiences in a safe and caring environment.

Maternity Meet-and-Greet: Getting to know the Maternity Center First Saturday of each month, 3:30 p.m. Prepare for the birth of your child by meeting staff, touring the Maternity Center and learning about various parent education classes. Get to know our Labor-and-Delivery unit and ask about admitting procedures and childbirth options. free. On-demand tours are also available by request; please call 1.888.724.7123. Preparing for Childbirth (3-Session Class) First, second and third Wednesdays or Thursdays of the month, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This three-session series provides first-time parents with information on the birth process, relaxation and breathing techniques, medication and postpartum adjustment. Weekend Childbirth Series Third Saturday and Sunday of the month, 10 a.m. to Noon The Weekend Childbirth Series is a condensed twoday version of Preparing for Childbirth. The class provides information on the birth process, relaxation and breathing techniques, medication and post-partum adjustment. We recommend scheduling the series for the mid-way point of your pregnancy. The class is $100 for couples planning to deliver at Clara Maass Medical Center and $120 for couples who are not. Thinking about Breast Feeding Second Monday of each month, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Would you like to learn more about resources that can help you choose the best option for you and your baby? Clara Maass Medical Center nurses, who are trained-lactation experts, will give expectant mothers information about the advantages of breastfeeding, maternal nutrition, breast care and breastfeeding tips for the working mother. $25 per person. Sibling Program Second Sunday of the month, from 10 a.m. to Noon Pre-school and school-age children are introduced to the exciting role of being an older brother or sister. Children will receive a tour of the Maternity Unit along with age-appropriate information about the childbirth process. The class ends with a birthday party to celebrate the arrival of the new little brother or sister. Families should select a date close to the expected delivery date to attend. Baby Shower Infant Care Class Fourth Wednesday of each month, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Designed for families planning to deliver at Clara Maass Medical Center, this two-hour program covers basic infant care, safety and post-partum concerns. Programs at Clara Maass Medical Center Catch the Senior Wellness WAVE! Would you like to help senior citizens in your neighborhood gain access no-cost Medicare Annual Wellness Visits? If so, call Clara Maass Medical Center and schedule a visit from a representative from the Wellness Assessment Van for Elders (WAVE). WAVE delivers the Medicare-funded Annual Wellness Visits to eligible seniors with no co-pays, no deductibles and no co-insurance fees. The WAVE van will come to your location so seniors don t have to travel far. WAVE staff members speak English, Spanish and Portuguese to help communicate with some seniors in the language they are most comfortable speaking. The preventive care delivered by WAVE medical professionals is designed to help seniors stay healthy while enhancing their independence and quality of life. WAVE participants complete a health risk assessment and speak with either a Physician or a Nurse Practitioner. Each senior will leave the visit with an easy-to-understand personal health plan that can be discussed with his or her Primary Care Physician. The health plan includes recommended medical services and screenings. The WAVE van is available to visit local community centers, residential buildings, municipalities, Health Departments, faith-based organizations and other seniorfocused organizations. Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Clara Maass Medical Center Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Cardiac Rehabilitation Department Clara Maass Medical Center, 1 Clara Maass Drive, Belleville, NJ The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Clara Maass Medical Center helps individuals who have moderate to severe breathing problems overcome physical limitations resulting from their disease. Candidates for the program include patients recovering from an acute pulmonary episode, people with lung disorders and anyone whose activities are limited by chronic lung disease and shortness of breath. Seminars and Bariatric Support Group Sessions At Clara Maass Medical Center The Learning Center 1 Clara Maass Drive, Belleville, New Jersey Surgical Options for Weight Loss Mondays: February 6, March 3, April 3, May 1, June 5, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visit the New Jersey Bariatric and Metabolic Institute (NJBMI) at Clara Maass Medical Center for a free information seminar. Find out if you, a family member or a friend would be eligible for weight-loss surgery. The seminar will cover what you can expect before, during and after Bariatric surgery. Visit our campus and meet acclaimed Bariatric Surgeon Naveen Ballem, M.D., Director of Bariatric Surgery at Clara Maass Medical Center, the Bariatric Surgery Team and former Bariatric surgery patients. Immediately after the seminar, participants have an opportunity to stay in The Learning Center to attend the Bariatric Support Group Session. Bariatric Support Groups Mondays: February 6, March 3, April 3, May 1, June 5, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Immediately following each Surgical Options for Weight Loss seminar, there will be a Bariatric Support Group for Bariatric patients. Each support group focuses on a different topic to help you maintain your weight loss and receive support from others. Friends and family are encouraged to join you. Breast Cancer Support Group Sessions are held at 4:00 p.m. on the last Monday of each month At Clara Maass Medical Center, patients have support in the fight against breast cancer. Whether coping with a recent diagnosis or survivorship, Clara Maass invites you to share your journey with others. Light refreshments will be served. Breathe Easy: High Risk Lung Cancer Screening Oncology experts at Clara Maass Medical Center believe it is important to identify individuals who may be high-risk for developing lung cancer. You are eligible to participate if you are a current or former smoker between the ages of 55 and 74. Schedule an appointment by calling 973.844.4166 and ask to speak with a Lung Cancer Navigator to get more information. A physician prescription is required for this screening. Nutrition Support Groups for Cancer Patients First Thursday of the month, 6:00 p.m. Good nutrition is important during cancer treatment and during remission. Cancer patients can speak with a Registered Dietitian about nutrition as it relates to their diagnosis and side effects from treatments. Each monthly session will feature a different theme. Look Good Feel Better Mondays: March 6 and May 8, 10 a.m. to Noon Look Good Feel Better is a National Public Service Program that was established by the American Cancer Society to help female cancer patients improve their self-image. This interactive program is all about health, wellness and beauty. Each woman will learn beauty techniques and ways to manage the appearance of side effects related to chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Massage Therapy for Caregivers of Oncology Patients Tuesdays, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Clara Maass Medical Center, 1 Clara Maass Drive, 3 South Annex, Belleville, NJ We know caregiving can take a toll on you. Clara Maass Medical Center launched the Massage Therapy service to help you take care of yourself. Caregivers, of Oncology patients who are treated at Clara Maass, are invited to enjoy a free, one-hour massage with a Certified Massage Therapist. While your loved one receives treatment at Clara Maass, relax in a quiet atmosphere on campus every Tuesday. This program is courtesy of the support from Crum & Forster. Interested in Genetic Counseling? Genetic counseling is available at The Cancer Center at Clara Maass Medical Center to help individuals determine their risk of developing specific types of cancer. The Hospital Elder Life Program (H.E.L.P.) aims to provide extra attention and care to senior citizens admitted to the hospital. The program s goal is to maintain physical and cognitive functioning of our patients.
