Laboratory Designed Abutments (LDA) & Laboratory Designed Abutments For Competitive Systems (LDAC) Quick Reference Guide Note 1: BIOMET 3i recommends scanning a case with an occlusal registration because it is the easiest and quickest way to complete the scanning for abutment design. Note 2: The LDA/LDAC T-Scan Cap has one curved side and one flat side. Curved Side Flat Side Instructions For Scanning A Stone Model With An Occlusal Registration 1. Instructions For Scanning A Stone Model With An Occlusal Registration (continued) 2. Create a new order in Dental Manager. a. Enter Patient Information. b. Select Tooth #. c. Click on Abutment Icon. d. Select BIOMET 3i. e. Select Systems. f. Select Kits. g. Click the green plus sign. h. Select Material. (Other information should be pre-populated) i. Instructions For Scanning A Stone Model With An Occlusal Registration (continued) Scanning: 4. Place the stone model in the scanner and click next (the rough scan image will appear). 5. Highlight the occlusal registration for the detailed scan and click continue. 6. Trim bite and click Okay. 3
Instructions For Scanning A Stone Model With An Occlusal Registration (continued) 7. Remove the model from the scanner. 8. Remove the occlusal registration and gingival mask. 9. Place the correct T-Scan Cap corresponding to the implant size and type on the model. 10. Make sure it is fully seated. VERY IMPORTANT. 11. Tighten down the T-Scan Cap with the supplied screw. 12. Lightly and evenly spray the T-Scan Cap. 4
Instructions For Scanning A Stone Model With An Occlusal Registration (continued) 13. Place the model back in the scanner and click next (the rough scan image will appear). 14. Only highlight the T-Scan Cap area for the detail scan and click continue. 15. 3-Point align the CAD T-Scan Cap to the scanned T-Scan Cap. a. Select the first set of red, green and blue points on the Scanned T-Scan Cap. b. Select the second set of red, green and blue points on the CAD T-Scan Cap. c. Click Apply VERY IMPORTANT: Alignment must be done correctly. Curved side to curved side; flat side to flat side. Failure to perform the correct alignment will result in abutment rotation. Instructions For Scanning A Stone Model With An Occlusal Registration (continued) 16. Use the 2-D cross section tool to verify if the alignment is accurate. 17. Click Ok if alignment is correct. 18. Click Yes when the software prompts to scan the gingival mask. 19. Remove the model from the scanner. 20. Remove the T-Scan Cap and put the gingival mask back without shifting the model. 21. Lightly and evenly spray the gingival mask. 6
Instructions For Scanning A Stone Model With An Occlusal Registration (continued) 22. Place the model back in the scanner and click next (the rough scan image will appear). 23. Highlight the gingival mask areas that will be needed for the design. 24. The software should automatically align the gingival mask scan to the T-Scan Cap scan. If not, do so with 3- point alignment. 25. Click Ok if the alignment is good. 7

Instructions For Abutment Design 1. Indicate abutment location by placing the blue control point at the crest of the buccal margin. 2. Click Ok. 3. The software should automatically detect the path insertion direction. 4. Click Ok if the path insertion direction is correct. 9
Instructions For Abutment Design (continued) 5. Select the desired top cap library and design the abutment in the Parametric step. Note: If the design is outside of the allowable parameters, the software will indicate the area that needs to be fixed in red. 6. Set vertical offset. VERY IMPORTANT. Failure to do so will result in case rejection. Click Ok after vertical offset is set. 10
Instructions For Abutment Design (continued) 8. Finalize abutment design in the Sculpt step by using the Sculpt Toolkit. 9. Click OK if abutment design is correct. 10. Uncheck Use screw hole box. 11. Click Ok. 11
Instructions For Abutment Design (continued) 12. Abutment design is saved. 13. Click Close. 14. The Send to Manufacturer window will now appear. 15. Click Send. 16. The laboratory designed abutment is now sent to BIOMET 3i for manufacturing. 12
