Quitline Vendor ereferral Survey 2017 In August 2017, NAQC reached out to services providers to update the status of ereferral capacity among the states they work with and to learn whether states were implementing ereferral using the standards outlined in NAQC s Technical Guide. The following table contains information shared by the 11 services providers that operate the 53 quitlines across the states and territories. Overall 24 state quitlines have fully implemented ereferral with at least one healthcare partner. In addition, 5 state quitlines are actively working to implement ereferral but have not yet completed the work, and 23 quitlines have not yet embarked on the process of implementing ereferral. Endnotes are provided at the end of the document and contain additional information on acronyms used in the table and links to ereferral resources. This table will be updated periodically to reflect progress made. NAQC s Guide for Implementing ereferral Using Certified EHRs was created as a resource for quitlines and other cessation services seeking to establish referral systems with healthcare electronic health record (EHR) systems. The Guide provides a recommended set of standards for implementing ereferrals between healthcare systems and providers of tobacco cessation counseling. The standards were created with the consensus of NAQC s ereferral Workgroup with the following objectives: Establish a technical standard for ereferrals that is uniform across healthcare systems, state quitlines, and EHR systems; Adopt the standards set forth in this guide for ereferrals between healthcare systems, quitlines, and other cessation providers; Provide guidance to hospitals, clinics and quitlines on how to implement ereferral systems; Share best practices and lessons learned about implementation in various clinical settings; Promote tobacco cessation with ereferral as an effective way to meet performance measures for the EHR Incentive Program, Joint Commission and PQRS; and Create specialized registries for tobacco dependence and treatment. More information on ereferral s can be found in NAQC s Guide for Implementing ereferral Using Certified EHRs - https://c.ymcdn.com/sites/naquitline.siteym.com/resource/resmgr/eref/guideforimpereffeb2016.pdf 3 For ereferral Status, was selected if the quitline has implemented ereferral with at least one healthcare organization; In-progress if the quitline is actively working on ereferral implementation but does not yet have the capacity to transmit referrals in this way with at least one healthcare organization; if the state quitline is not actively engaged in ereferral and if the status was not obtained. rth American Quitline Consortium, September 2017 10
