Why Do a Survey Now? Last parish survey was 10 years ago Community (population, economic level, etc.) has changed, so it s likely our parishioners have changed as well Technology has exploded, allowing us to reach out to parishioners and non-members in a multitude of ways Father Kosem and Parish Council need our ideas to develop the vision for the future

Survey Results 585 Responses received 10.5% of all our registered parishioners 14.7% of parishioners age 21 and above We compared the demographics of the Survey responses to the list of all registered parishioners to see if the responses provided a representative sample of our Parish.

There was a special effort made to reach out to school families. We do not know why men chose not to answer. Perhaps women answered the survey for the "whole family".

Mass Attendance in the Past Year 1.20% - Daily 1% - None 6.80% - 1-2 times per month 28.90% 1 time per month 69.10% - Weekly 585 people responded to the survey: Nearly 70% of respondents indicated they attend Mass weekly

Why do people participate/increase their participation? Want to participate help the parish, give back to my community, set a good example for my children and others Children are involved in school and sports so it is easy to help Retired; or children are older so I have more time It s the right thing to do for my parish Way to meet other parishioners
Why don t people participate/decrease their participation? Age and declining health As children grow up, focus of volunteering shifts (where they go we go) Work and family obligations Many groups seem closed to new members same leaders and same activities year after year Tried to join and no one followed up with me Personality conflict with the person/people running a particular ministry

Parishioner Satisfaction 83% of parishioners have a strong sense of belonging to our community 81% say being at St. Jude has made a difference in their spiritual life 78% say it is easy to tell friends what is unique about St. Jude HOWEVER When asked How many persons or families have you invited to visit or join the church in the past year 47 % responded NONE
87% of Respondents indicated they looked forward to coming to Mass Some of the most commonly repeated positive comments were: The sense of community and sense of fellowship Mass attendance enhances my faith, overall spirituality and prayer The homilies, liturgy and religious education materials help my faith Mass is uplifting and a great way to start the week Some of the most commonly repeated negative comments were: Do not like the format of Mass (music, announcements, liturgies, structure and/or times) I feel like an outsider, not made to feel welcome Homilies don t have modern relevance Attend because it is an obligation; it interferes with other weekend activities

Knowledge of Ministries Many respondents commented that they were surprised at the large number of ministries provided by our parish Some comments suggested that some ministries could be combined Most respondents felt St. Jude did not need to add more ministries, with the exception of Youth/Young Adult ministry

Most Common Survey Comments Grow our parish Get more people to Mass on a weekly basis We ALL need to invite people every week, but 47% of Respondents said they have not invited anyone in the past year Add Youth/Young Adult Programming Schedule more social gatherings not related to fundraising Restructure ministries to maximize volunteers and eliminate duplicated efforts Adapt the music to better fit the needs and tastes of the Parish and different Masses
