SEWF 2018: Homecoming Community Enterprise in Scotland (CEIS) is delighted to organise the 2018 Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF). We hosted the inaugural event in Edinburgh in 2008 because of the increasing interest in social enterprise and the enthusiasm of leaders to share their experiences. While our ambition was to increase connectivity and support participants to share learning and ideas in order to build better businesses, we didn t anticipate the SEWF 2008 would mark the beginning of a global social enterprise movement. One of the defining features of social enterprise throughout the world is the strength of its social capital. Those involved in social enterprise as leaders, workers or supporters share a set of values as we are focused on improving the world we live in. This makes an annual global gathering a very special occasion. Visitors to Scotland in 2018 will engage with our unique Scottish Social Enterprise ecosystem, with its progressive policy, which sees social enterprise and government working together to tackle inequality and strengthen communities. A lot has happened in the world of social enterprise since 2008 and our 2018 event programme will showcase best practice while shaping the agenda for the coming decade. As the year of Youth, SEWF 2018 will collaborate with worldwide youth enterprises, including Social Enterprise Academy, FreshSight Ltd, Inspiring Stories (NZ) and Foundation of Young Australians to create an dynamic, high energy forum. We will also get our visitors into social enterprises in urban and rural Scotland to experience the creativity and confidence of our exceptional businesses. Ultimately, we want to offer an event they won't forget. For many, this will be their first time in Scotland, so as well as ticking all the boxes from a practical and learning perspective, we want to provide them with a rich, authentic Scottish cultural experience throughout the forum, at side events and study tours, and what better place to do this than in the city of Edinburgh, our Country's capital. Following the success of the SEWF 2017 in Christchurch, New Zealand, our unique social enterprise landscape and our experience in helping to manage each SEWF since its inception, we're confident we can achieve this with the support of our partners, sponsors and vast social enterprise network.
