Youth for Youth Youthfund Sponsorship Proposal www.youthfund.co.nz

Youthfund info@youthfund.co.nz (09) 489 9865 www.youthfund.co.nz Suite 6 Mary Thomas Centre 3 Gibbons Road Takapuna North Shore City 0622 P.O. Box 33284 Takapuna, North Shore City 0740

About Us purpose of Youthfund is to nurture and support youth initiatives which promote leadership, partnership, responsibility, community involvement and positive change. What makes Youthfund unique from other funding bodies is that we live and work by our mantra Youth for Youth. We are an organisation that is completely run by young people. The Youthfund board consists of 9 volunteers, all aged between 14 and 24; we consider ourselves to be young people empowering other young people to do great things within the community. We maintain an entirely youth focus in three main ways: 1. By providing financial assistance, network contacts and support for youth initiated events and projects. 2. By allowing young people to be on the board and become a part of the decision making process, thereby enhancing their leadership potential. 3. By creating positive experiences for all the young people who attend the events we support, we are able to reach many more youths than just those we fund. In order for an applicant to receive funding, they need to present us with an idea that many young whilst we encourage and support our applicants, their events and initiatives are solely based on their original ideas; and it is their own creativity and commitment that turn these ideas into reality. Over our first four years of operation we have funded a wide range of events, from music gigs to art exhibitions, esteem-building camps to fashion shows. We are currently on Auckland s North Shore, and whilst we are open to expanding our scope of operations further, at the moment we believe that it is important to perfect and nurture our relationship believe that Youthfund could become a strong establishment in the youth sector. This is why we are writing to you today; we believe that we could work together to make Youthfund an even bigger and better part of our community. Please take some time to read through this proposal and to find out more about our initiative. Warm Regards, Chairperson 01

Why We Need You Youthfund was started in 2007 with the help of the Tindall Foundation. We were lucky enough to receive annual financial support from them for the first three years of our existence, a reflection of their philosophy to support with initial project funding. Now that we are four years old, it is time for us to spread our wings and become self-sustainable. With ongoing support and funding from our sponsors, we will be able to continue allocating funds to local youth initiatives. It is absolutely vital to secure new funding to continue having a positive impact on the North Shore community, your partnership with Youthfund will be vital to keep the dream alive. What s in it for you? As a community initiative, Youthfund is naturally seeking to create networks and relationships that are sustainable and beneficial to all parties. By working with local sponsors, we will be able to bring community organisations, businesses and young people from across the Shore, and further, together. Therefore by joining our network and entering a partnership with Youthfund, sponsors would receive: Exposure to the North Shore Youthfund demographic Ongoing publicity, exposure and acknowledgement at Youthfund events, on our website and in our newsletters Direct association with our philosophy of creating and empowering youth for youth initiatives Direct involvement in local youth initiatives by appearing and promoting brand image at our events Opportunities to directly engage with youth initiatives on the North Shore Access to our extensive network These benefits are something that every partnership with Youthfund will universally benefit from. We also like to create personal, unique partnerships with each sponsor, so that we can incorporate the brand image, philosophies and needs of your organisation into what we do at Youthfund. Let s negotiate. Let s help each other. 02

How Can You Help? With your financial partnership, together we can continue to benefit the community. As a valued sponsor of Youthfund, not only will your monetary contributions matter, there will be numerous ways in which you can further your support. Aligning your company with us will broaden your presence in our community and will provide you and your staff opportunities to actively assist with any event of initiatives we may choose to fund. Not only will those we support benefit from your contributions, your staff and your company will too. Youthfund Sponsorship Tier Levels GOLD $3000 SILVER $1500 BRONZE $500 You may be prepared to contribute to Youthfund in your own way and any form of contribution is widely appreciated. We want to work with you and also to help empower our youth. It is up to you how you want to leave a lasting legacy on the next generation. Let s work together; we ll help you help youth. 03

Functionality Here is a simple, step-by-step breakdown of how Youthfund operates as a board of young people. 1-A young person applies for funding Our applicatiion process is friendly and inviting. It s as simple as filling out an online form. We tailor our approach to meet individual needs so we ll often meet with our applicant to build genuine relationships and offer appropriate guidance. 2-The board votes Once each board member has a full understanding of the application, they vote. This decides whether or not the application will be funded, and if so, how much. If 8 or 9 Board Members vote then 6 must be in favour for the funding to be granted. If 5-7 Board Members vote then 5 must be in favour for the funding to be granted. A minimum of 5 Board Members must be present in order for a vote to be held. 3-The Board assigns a liaison If an application is successful, a board member is appointed as a liaison. This is to provide ongoing support and correspondence throughout the process and throughout the initiative itself. 4-Post-event After everything is finished the liaison will help the applicant fill out a financial accountability report so Youthfund knows how the money was spent and how successful the applicant was with their initiative. We celebrate the outcomes and bring closure to our involvement with the initiative through the completion of this process. Once the report is received, the board takes time to reflect, discuss and evaluate the initiative and process, deeply reconnecting with the kaupapa of Youthfund and improving for the future. 06

Legality Due to many of Youthfund s board members being under 18 years of age, we are not legally able to form a trust. Therefore, the most appropriate and effective way for Youthfund to function is under the umbrella of another organisation YouthworX; who provide us with on-going support & charitable status. YouthworX provides us with an administrator who helps with financial and administrative services at meetings along with processing applications; and a Mentor who assists the board at meetings and the co-chairs with leadership and supervision. About YouthworX The North Shore YouthworX Trust s mission is to connect, empower, and promote organisations who work with North Shore s youth. They envisage the North Shore being the most supportive environment for young people to grow up in. Through strengthening the sector of people and organisations who work with youth, YouthworX actively ensures that the principles of Youth Development are embraced, organisations are supported to thrive and young people know where to go for support and information. YouthworX s Objectives To connect organisations and people working with North Shore youth. Regular network meetings Regular e-newsletters Stock-taking To empower organisations and people working with North Shore youth. Collecting and disseminating relevant information One-on-one support and referrals Umbrella Services Collaboration support To promote organisations and people, opportunities and inspiration to youth. Engaging with youth to develop mechanisms to do this Ensuring the running, maintenance and development of www.appleseed.org.nz, by youth, for youth. Creating positive youth culture through promoting positive stories through mainstream media Amanda Judd is the Director of YouthworX, and Camille Smith the Co-ordinator. They are also the Mentor and Administrator for Youthfund. 07

Legality YouthworX is governed by a trust board of eight local people, all of whom are actively working with and alongside North Shore s youth, and of which three trustees are between the ages of 18 and 24. They are all passionate about Youth Development, and value the need for co-ordination of the local youth sector for effectiveness. 08

Testimonials Youthfund have blown me away with the constant support and funding assistance they have given throughout the entire process leading up to 'A lakeside Affair'. Without Youthfund my event would not be able to happen and I am so, so appreciative for their willingness to stretch the funding to cover all required costs. My event is aimed at the youth community and I think what Youthfund are doing is critical to motivating young people to showcase all their outstanding talents. I am so grateful for the opportunity to organise an event that I am so passionate about. - Kellie Habgood, A Lakeside Affair When a young person, or group of young people, want to create an event that moves, touches and inspires others into action, funding can often be a hurdle. Thanks to Youthfund we were able to leap over this hurdle to run an awesome Lipsync Competition, which also was a fundraiser of $7000 for our local Surf Lifesaving Club. Youthfund enables the achievement of dreams - Cam Calkoen, Lipsync, Pupuke Rotaract Club Without Youthfund many of North Shore s youth would not have the experiences, opportunities and achievements they reach for. Youthfund has unreservedly provided support and resources for many worthwhile events and projects. They helped us to fund the building of a community stage, which was built by a young person from Devonport who was assisting in putting together an event for disabled and able bodied youth in Takapuna. He had the idea of lending the stage out to other young people in the community at low or no cost, to enable others to achieve their goals and dreams. As a result of the funding, the Stage has already been well utilized and loaned out to numerous youth organisations and young people. This is just one of the commendable projects that YouthFund supported. Our community is truly grateful to have this awesome resource available to us. - Kerry Barnett, Community Stage for Hire, PHAB 09

Testimonials Youthfund is an innovative and unique concept. I enjoyed the way young people have a degree of control and are encouraged throughout all aspects of the organisation. The board brings together young people who want to make a difference, and allows them to grow, discuss, and experience, teaching many important life skills, and giving Board members a feel for working in the Not-For-Profit sector. - Kate Godfrey, Youthfund Chairperson 2006-2008 As the facilitator of Devonport s YouThink our local youth forum I must say that Youthfund has been great to work with as a seed funder of local youth initiatives. Youthfund and the funds they provide have made a tremendous difference in our area with the support they give to young people. One of Youthfund s strengths is that their members are hands on and directly engaged in encouraging young people to be highly involved in youth projects, so they have as much control as possible. - Maire Vieth, YouThink Coordinator, Devonport Community Trust 10

Final Words Thanks for the interest, energy and time you ve taken to read about Youthfund. We hope that we have inspired you to consider becoming part of the Youthfund Whanau. Please feel welcome to contact us with your questions, queries, and comments, and if you re interested in discussing sponsorship further, let s meet! Are you on board? Many thanks, The Team at Youthfund Booklet designed by Will Design for Food on behalf of Youthfund 2010. 11
