Scripps College Off-Campus Referral Program The Scripps College Referral Program serves as an additional resource for accessing mental health related counseling and therapy in the local area. Important Note: The Off-Campus Referral Program should not be utilized for medical emergencies. Students in mental health crisis should first contact one of the following emergency service providers: Resource Phone On Campus # Email Campus Safety (909) 607-2000 72000 dispatch@cuc.claremont.edu Therapist On Call (909) 621-8202 Press 1 18202 n/a After Hours 5pm-8: 30am for Urgent Student Matters Resource Phone On Campus # Dean On Call (909) 607-2000 72000 National Crisis Lines available 24/7 Resource Phone National Suicide Prevention Hotline 800-273-8255 Trevor Lifeline (LGBTQ) 866-488-7386 LA County Suicide Prevention Hotline 800-854-7771 Why does Scripps College offer the referral program? The program is meant to increase timely access to mental health services for Scripps students. While students may certainly choose to treat at the Monsour Center, as many Scripps students do, there are instances when a student might choose to seek an off-campus provider, especially given the high demand for Monsour counselors and the resulting waiting times. Additionally, the list of off campus providers is racially and ethnically diverse, and providers specialize in a variety of areas. What students qualify for participation in the off-campus referral program? Any currently enrolled and matriculating Scripps student may seek an off-campus referral for any reason. However, the College hopes to limit financial assistance to those students who have a demonstrated financial need. Students who do not have demonstrated financial need, but present other compelling reasons (such as privacy concerns) may also request financial assistance. How much will each session cost? Provider fees vary and details should be obtained from directly from the provider. If I qualify, what exactly does the College cover? The providers who accept insurance will bill your insurance plan directly for the cost of the session. Some providers require payment directly from you and will not work with insurance companies. Providers willing to bill your insurance company may require a co-payment, typically the difference between what the insurer will cover for each session and the provider s fee per session. The College will cover co-payments of up to $75 per session. For those insurers requiring patients to pay them directly, Scripps will cover up to $75 of the cost per session. How do I choose a provider? Ultimately, you should select a provider whose experience and background suit your specific mental health needs, and one that is a good fit. Cost might also be a factor, although the Referral Program is meant to minimize the importance of cost considerations. Is there a limit on the number of sessions Scripps will supplement? Yes. The College will supplement a maximum of 8 sessions per academic year. Some exceptions have been made in consultation with the individual provider and based on the compelling needs of the student.

How do I sign up for the referral program? 1. Students are required to complete the Referral request for services form by visiting this link. 2. Once completed, you will receive a letter within 24 hours that can be shared with your provider during your first appointment. The letter informs them of your status as a Scripps College student, as well as the terms and conditions for any supplemental payment by Scripps, should your insurance not cover the entire cost of treatment. 3. Once you receive the confirmation letter, you may schedule an appointment directly with the provider. The providers on the approved list do not accept my HMO insurance plan or my PPO Plan. What should I do? To find out if your insurer covers providers in the area, contact your insurer by using the customer service number on the back of your insurance identification card. Your Primary Contact Dean can also meet with you to assist you in contacting your insurance provider. Are the records of my treatment with the provider available to the College? If the College is providing financial assistance, you will be asked to sign a release allowing the provider to bill the College directly for any amount the College has agreed to pay under the referral program. This release does not allow the College to obtain your private medical records. Should you decide, in working with your Primary Contact Dean, that release of all or some of those records would be beneficial; you would be asked to sign a separate authorization.

Off Campus Referral Provider List: Below is a list of recommended local providers along with the insurance policies that each clinician accepts. Assuming the provider meets your specific needs, we suggest you work with those providers who accept your insurance. Remember, students with demonstrated financial need will receive up to $75 towards the session cost or co-pay associated with their insurance plan. Total out of pocket expenses may differ from student to student. If you would like to discuss your options, please reach out to your Primary Contact Dean or Christopher Dennis.
