WHAT IS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (MS) Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). The central nervous system acts like a switchboard sending electrical messages along the nerves to various parts of the body. These electrical messages instruct the body to perform various tasks, such as movement or thought. Over nine thousand people and their family members live with Multiple Sclerosis across Ireland. Although MS is a progressive neurological condition that can affect a person s health, lifestyle and relationships many people with MS find ways to manage and cope with many of the affects and difficulties. The average age of diagnosis of MS is 30 MS effects nearly three times as many women as it does men Ireland has one of the highest rates in Europe for MS MS IRELAND Multiple Sclerosis Ireland is the only national organisation providing information, support and advocacy services to the MS community. We work with people with MS, their families and carers and a range of key stakeholders including health professionals, students and other interested in or concerned about MS to ensure that we meet our goals. MS Ireland is chiefly a services driven organisation, focused on providing timely, person-centered services that create independence and choice for person with MS and their family. MISSION To enable and empower people affected by Multiple Sclerosis to live the life of their choice to their fullest potential. VISION MS Ireland has a vision of Irish society where all people affected by MS live positive and active lives in the community
AIMS The principal objectives for which MS Ireland exists are: to facilitate people with MS to control their lives and environment, to live with dignity and participate in the community to provide support for the families and carers of people with MS to co-operate with the medical, scientific, social and caring professions to promote scientific research into the cause of, cure for and management of MS, and the alleviation of medical and social symptoms to exchange and disseminate information relating to MS to provide an identifiable focal point by developing an efficient, effective and caring organisation to serve the needs of PAMS( People affected by Multiple Sclerosis) STRATEGIC AIMS Strategic Priorities for 2015-2019 1. To provide quality services nationally to ensure everyone with Multiple Sclerosis and their families have full access to services and supports when needed 2. MS Ireland will be the voice for PWMS( People with Multiple Sclerosis) driving an advocacy agenda that includes areas of greatest concern to PWMS 3. MS Ireland will develop a research strategy that will focus on supporting and participating in research that is in line with member expectations on local, national and international stages 4. Build and Strengthen MS Ireland s organisational capacity to ensure delivery of our strategic plan. 5. Continue to strengthen the governance and regulation of MS Ireland ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory bodies

You will find information about living with MS, free downloadable booklets and information sheets covering a broad range of MS topics, e.g. fatigue, exercise etc., research developments, available services, activities and events, our fundraising campaigns and the work we do. You will also find links to our email updates, social media channels and our MS & Me Community blog and you can sign up to receive enews for regular updates. CURRENT PROBLEMS WITH OUR WEBSITE Needs a refresh, looks very tired Very difficult to navigate People cannot find the information they need Not mobile optimised or responsive over 50% of traffic coming from mobile phones Not interactive or engaging Not disability friendly (AAA rating) PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS OF THE WEBSITE To provide quality, relevant and up to date information nationally to ensure everyone with Multiple Sclerosis and their families have full access to information on services and supports when needed. KEY TARGET AUDIENCE People with MS. The primary target audience of our website is people with multiple sclerosis. Our website provides PWMS with the latest and most up to date information Multiple sclerosis Families/ carers. As well PWMS, the key target audience for the website will be family members and those who care for PWMS Corporate partners Health care professionals- including neurologist and specialist nurses. Media Fundraising- those who are taking part in a fundraising event or looking to do so Government agencies Media outlets Ambassadors WHAT WE WOULD LIKE FROM A WEBSITE The majority of our website visitors are in research mode, so overall we would like our website to not only cater to those looking to make a donation or volunteer, but to educate the majority of visitors about MS Ireland in the hope that they will in turn support us financially. Engaging and interactive We want to integrate the website with Salesforce (our current database) in the future We want to completely revamp the look of the website, and CMS where we can make the changes ourselves in house We have an online shop & payment system and we need it to be compatible with Realex which we use. We have a great bank of images and videos and we would like to be able to use these more. We want the site to be user friendly, mobile optimised and integrated with social media. We want an interactive events calendar displaying current events We need a website that is disability friendly (AAA rating), our current website is not Donate message is lost on our current website we would like this to be a clean call to action Easy events registration system and the ability to create and change forms We would like an area where we can thank sponsors and corporate donors
