Thank you for taking time to participate in this anonymous survey which is designed to gauge members level of involvement in service work. The results of this survey will be used by the WSO to communicate with members about the benefits that come with service in Al Anon Family Groups. For the purpose of this survey, service work can be defined as a member s involvement in any activity which may benefit other members in Al Anon, in addition to oneself; this includes holding a service position, such as Group Representative, etc. Service activities are broken down into five categories in this survey, as follows: 1. Group Coordination service activities (examples: Greet newcomers before a meeting, chair a meeting, maintain a meeting building key and unlock/lock up for meetings, etc.) 2. Individual Sharing service activities (examples: Participate in Al Anon surveys, share during a meeting, contribute a sharing to The Forum or Conference Approved Literature, etc.) 3. Member Sponsoring service activities (examples: Give out your contact information to a new or struggling member, sponsor another member, take another member to their first service event, etc.) 4. Beyond Group Level Coordination service activities (examples: Volunteer to take phone calls from the Al Anon telephone answering service, hold a position such as AMIAS and Alateen Group Sponsor, volunteer for a district picnic or other district events, facilitate workshops at events, etc.) 5. Public Outreach service activities (examples: Leave copies of literature at local professional's office/hospitals/etc., contribute a sharing to a local newsletter, participate in public service announcement (PSA) distributions to television and radio stations, etc.) As participation in this survey is considered service work, we thank you for your time in this and in all service activities in which you are involved. If the only service work in which you have been involved for Al Anon is completion of this survey, we welcome your participation equally, as we do for those who have additional involvement in other activities. There are no right or wrong answers and your honest responses are appreciated to facilitate improvements in the way service work is presented to members as a tool of recovery from the effects of someone else s alcoholism. Please allow approximately 10 15 minutes to complete this survey. All questions and comments about this survey can be addressed to Pamela Walters, WSO Information Analyst, at pamela@al anon.org, or 757 53 100. Page 1
