GENERAL / VASCULAR SONOGRAPHY OPTION COURSE DESCRIPTIONS INTRODUCTION TO SONOGRAPHY The fcus f this curse includes cntent that emphasizes persnal adaptatin skills, nursing skills and staff develpment issues. An intrductin t basic sngraphic terminlgy, techniques, ultrasund physics, and scanning techniques frm the framewrk fr future study. Lectures are crrelated with scan lab demnstratin and practice. The student handbk plicies and prcedures are emphasized. ABDOMINAL SONOGRAPHY I sngraphic anatmy f the upper abdmen t include bld vessels, liver and the biliary tree. Physilgy, pathlgy and related labratry values are emphasized and crrelated with sngraphic findings. Lectures are crrelated with scan lab demnstratin and practice fr each rgan system. ABDOMINAL SONOGRAPHY II sngraphic anatmy f the upper abdmen t include the pancreas, kidneys, spleen, adrenal glands and retrperitneum. Physilgy, pathlgy and related labratry values are emphasized and crrelated with sngraphic findings. The use and imprtance f clr and spectral Dppler will be emphasized. Lectures are crrelated with scan lab demnstratin and practice fr each rgan system. CLINICAL EDUCATION I - V Students are scheduled fr clinical practicum at participating clinical educatin centers. Students prgress in cmpetence and ability n an individual basis and within the guidelines set frth by prgram faculty. Students are rutinely evaluated n prfessinal grwth, persnal interactins, and technical ability. A predetermined number f cmpetencies specific t each learning cncentratin must be achieved during the duratin f the prgram. Clinical experience rtatins include abdminal imaging, OB/GYN, transthracic cardiac imaging and vascular technlgy. Sngraphic technique is als practiced during rutinely scheduled scan lab sessins, which are cnducted by the prgram faculty. Clinical Educatin I IV3 credits Clinical Educatin V 4 credits INTRODUCTION TO BREAST IMAGING sngraphic anatmy f the breast. INTRODUCTION TO MSK IMAGING This curse fcuses n the intrductin f nrmal grss, crss-sectinal, relatinal and sngraphic anatmy f the musculskeletal system. INTRODUCTION TO PEDIATRIC SONOGRAPHY sngraphic anatmy f each rgan system f the abdmen, pelvis and ther structures typically seen in the pediatric and adlescent patient. Nrmal anatmy and disease prcesses within the gastrintestinal system f the pediatric and adult patient will als be discussed. Students will becme familiar with the clinical symptms, lab values and specific ultrasund prtcls fr nrmal and abnrmal cases. Lectures are crrelated with practical clinical OB/GYN SONOGRAPHY I sngraphic anatmy f the nn-gravid female pelvis and the first trimester gravid uterus and develping fetus. The sngraphic presentatins f fetal abnrmalities fund in the 2nd and 3rd trimester are cnsidered. Students will fcus n the mre cmmn anmalies f the central nervus system, gastrintestinal system, musculskeletal system, geniturinary system, thracic cavity, and cardivascular system. Preparatin fr the sngraphy bards and prfessinalism review: The main bjective is t prvide the student with the pprtunity t imprve test-taking skills in preparatin fr the examinatin f the American Registry fr Diagnstic Medical Sngraphy. Jb-hunting, interview skills and resume writing will prvide the student with skills needed when seeking emplyment. An verview f prfessinal behavir and standards will be reviewed at this time SEMINAR IN MANAGEMENT & EDUCATION This curse will discuss theries and techniques f research, management, educatin and applicatins and sales sngraphy. Students will learn pssible career paths available and understand what that career path jb descriptin wuld entail. Students will chse between management, educatin, research and applicatins fr their final prject and develp a prpsal/slutin fr that career pathway. Students will participate in weekly nline discussins regarding the pathways. SPECIALIZED SONOGRAPHY sngraphic anatmy f superficial structures, t include the male pelvis (bladder, prstate and scrtum), the thyrid and parathyrid glands. Ptential bilgical effects and safety are discussed tgether with the practical applicatin f physical cncepts.

VASCULAR SONOGRAPHY I This curse fcuses n the physical principles relating t the vascular system, nrmal grss, relatinal, crsssectinal and sngraphic anatmy f the cartid. Mechanisms f disease, unique t the vascular system, as well as the relatinship between cardivascular disease and the health f ther rgan systems will be discussed. Crrelatin f labratry findings and etilgies f disease will be cvered. Dppler principles and vascular hemdynamics are presented. Lectures are crrelated with scan lab demnstratin as well as practical clinical transplants, and penile Dppler. Mechanisms f disease, unique t the vascular system, as well as the relatinship between cardivascular disease and the health f ther rgan systems will be discussed.
