I know what you re saying it is only August and the middle of the calendar year, but it is also the start of a new year for your Chapters Officers and Executive Committee. I would like to thank Dr. Songqing Wen for guiding, overseeing and working so hard to provide a truly outstanding last year. As always, the support of the Executive Committee, sponsors, members and volunteers was at 100%. However, this also sets a very high bar for the incoming Officers, but I think we are up to the task. I am very pleased that Rachael Madland, has volunteered to act as Vice-Chair this year. She just returned from the ASM Materials Park Leadership Event where she gathered information and ideas to improve our Chapter with outreach, membership, programming and lots of other Chapter goodies. Laura Diers, from Pratt & Whitney, has stepped up to take on the Secretarial position this year and is our 1 st non-solar Turbines Officer for sometime, see it can be done. Lana Rokhman is still doing an outstanding job of track our finances. Dr. John Matz is settling very nicely into the webmaster position. Dr. Wen has now joined the ranks of our past chairs and other volunteers that comprise our always helpful and supportive Executive Committee. I hoping to maintain the excellent technical programs our membership and sponsors expect. Promote additional joint meetings with other professional organizations. I also would like to extend the interactions we have established with UCSD, the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair and other local educational institutions. I have discussed with the Executive Committee and decided that it might be time again to offer some local Materials Educational Institution (MEI) courses into San Diego. As a Chapter we can offer these courses locally at much reduced cost over the ASM National. These help promote our profession, increases our interaction with the local business community and provide some additional funds for other programs we may wish to pursue. You hopefully have checked out the left column notice for the Metallurgy for the Non-Metallurgist course, one of the most popular. If you know anyone that would be interested, please pass it along. Again, I would like to thank you; our members, sponsors, supporters and volunteers for all you have done to make the ASM San Diego Chapter a strong presence in Southern California. I am looking forward to a wonderful and expansive New Year. Also check out the "Events of Interest page with Information about Other Societies in the San Diego Area. Dr. Robert (Bob) Klug Chair 2013-14

July 2013 ASM SD Chapter Social Event ASM San Diego Chapter celebrated the completion of the 2012-2013 year with another end of the year social event, bowling. We had great time last year at our bowling party so we decided we would do it again. It appears that a good time was had by all. Thanks again for all you support.
