Denihan Chief Executive Officer The Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County s Training Institute is an approved provider through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board and the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board offering Recognized Clock Hours (RCH) to Chemical Dependency Professionals as well as Continuing Professional Education hours (CPE) to Counselors and Social Workers. Fees for the ADAMHS Board Training Institute workshops are $25 per half-day (2-4 hour) session and $45 for a full-day (5+ hour) session. Occasionally, workshops will be offered free on an as-needed basis per topic. Workshop fees are non-refundable. The ADAMHS Board is using Eventbrite to process ALL registrations. Payment can be made by credit card and/or checks made payable to the ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County. Invoices may be sent to organizations. All workshop participants must be registered and confirmed in advance through Eventbrite. An order confirmation and entrance ticket to the workshop will be e-mailed through Eventbrite immediately after the registration process is complete. Walk-ups and cash payments will not be accepted. To register for a workshop, visit the Web site listed at the end of each workshop description. Please note that each session has its own unique Web address. If you want to attend more than one session, you must register for each session individually through its unique Web site. Please arrive on time for all scheduled workshops. If you arrive late to a workshop you will not receive a certificate. Partial credit will not be given. In order to receive a certificate of completion, you must be present for the entire workshop. General Information: All workshops are held in the Training Institute, located in the ADAMHS Board offices on the 6 th Floor of the United Bank Building, 2012 West 25 th Street. Free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All visitors must check-in at the blue Parking Attendant Booth located in the lot directly behind the building on the east side of West 26 th Street. Visitors are to inform the attendant that they are visiting the ADAMHS Board and will be directed to available parking spaces or may receive complimentary valet parking. Please bring the ticket provided to you from the attendant to the ADAMHS Board receptionist for validation. Free and metered parking is also available on the street. OPEN ENTRY INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED Participants must meet the minimum education level and credential requirements indicated: Open to anyone seeking the most basic understanding/awareness of the topic presented. Registrants must be Certified Chemical Dependency Assistants, Registered Applicants for Prevention, Social Worker Assistant or STNA. Registrant must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II, Licensed Social Worker, or Licensed Professional Nurse. One death is too many. The need for prevention efforts is great. Because your school district may be small, it would be a mistake to assume suicide risk is low and training unwarranted. Even though your school district is small, risk for youth suicide is far from zero. In fact, it appears twice as high. QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention is an educational program designed to teach gatekeepers --those who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer youth at risk of suicide (e.g., parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, coaches, caseworkers, police officers)--the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond by following three steps: (1) Question the youth s desire or intent regarding suicide, (2) Persuade the youth to seek and accept help, and (3) Refer the youth to appropriate resources. Sixty percent of the people who have addiction problems who are eligible never even sign up. A larger percentage than that do not get benefits. Almost sixty percent of the people with mental illness who are eligible do not get their benefits, either because they do not sign up or because their case is not properly presented by the agency. Mental Health Month We often hear the clinical terms used by doctors and other professionals to identify the symptoms of mental illnesses but if someone hasn t gone through it, would they know how to recognize it? So often, clinical terms don t do justice to what life with a mental illness feels like. We know that two people with the same diagnosis can experience the same symptom and describe it in very different ways. Understanding the signs of a mental illness and identifying how it can feel can be confusing and sometimes can contribute to ongoing silence or hesitation to get help. It s important for people to talk about how it feels to live with a mental illness. We know that mental illnesses are common and treatable, and help is available. But not everyone knows what to look for when they are going through those early stages, and many simply experience symptoms differently. We all need to speak up early and in real, relatable terms so that people do not feel isolated and alone. This May is Mental Health Month; The ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County is raising awareness of the importance of speaking up about mental health. Mental Health Month is meant to help remove the shame and stigma of speaking out, so that more people can be comfortable coming out of the shadows and seeking the help they need. The ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County promotes that mental illnesses are real and that recovery is possible. Page 4

Presenter Information James Mitchell Brown, JD, CEO, a practicing lawyer since 1973, is a nationally known attorney and consultant, who is recognized for both his legal and his marketing skills. He is a former board member of the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers, (Now OAJ) a founding member and past president of the national Organization of Social Security Claimant s Representatives; has as an advocate in Washington, D.C., for claimant s representatives for more than 15 years; has appeared on national and local radio and television as a guest of many news hosts discussing the rights of the injured and disabled; has testified several times before Congress and has received numerous awards for his efforts to help people receive the benefits they deserve. The passion James brings to consulting for your practice and your person opens new ways for you to bring your entire law firm to levels you never imagined. Katie Boland, BS, serves as the External Affairs Officer at the ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County. She is responsible for managing the Board s social media pages as part of her responsibilities to promote the public image, role and sustainability of the Board. Katie is a certified QPR Instructor who serves on the Cuyahoga County Opiate Task Force, Cuyahoga County Suicide Prevention Task Force as well as the Leadership Committee for the Cuyahoga County Problem Gambling Coalition. Katie earned her Bachelors Degree in Marketing from Cleveland State University and attends various workshops and seminars related to marketing, public relations, social media as well as mental health and addiction treatment, prevention and recovery. Jane Granzier, LISW-S, currently holds the position of Associate Director of Crisis Services at FrontLine Service. In this role she oversees the Adult and Child Mobile Crisis Teams for Cuyahoga County as well as the Crisis Chat and Text services. Jane has been in this role for the past 2 years and prior to this served 17 years as a Program Manager for the Adult Mobile Crisis Team. Jane received her Master s Degree in Social Science Administration with a concentration in Mental Health from Case Western s Mandel School and is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervision Designation in the State of Ohio. She has prior experience working in child protective services, hospital-based social work and private practice. Jane is also a member of the Cuyahoga County Suicide Prevention Taskforce. Dr. Paul Martin, D.O., completed a residency in psychiatry at Case/MetroHealth and a fellowship in Forensic Medicine, Syracuse University. In addition to several years as a staff psychiatrist working in jails, crisis centers and prisons, he has served as a consultant to State of Wisconsin public defenders regarding competency issues. As a consultant he has presented throughout the states of New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio to social services, law enforcement, probation, school personnel, businesses and universities on topics of mental health issues, stress and violence in the workplace, and adolescent violence. He completed a residency in psychiatry through a combined program with Case Western Reserve University and MetroHealth Medical Center as well as a fellowship in Forensic Medicine at Syracuse University. Rachel Wilson, JD has dedicated her career to assisting the disabled. Aside from being a founding partner of Wilson & Gillissie, and a well-respected attorney, Rachel is devoted to a number of amazing causes, including the Westside Catholic Center and the Prayers from Maria Foundation. Rachel received her B.A. from Ohio University, and J.D. from Cleveland Marshall College of Law. Admitted to U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio and the U.S. 6th Circuit Court. She is a member of CMBA, LCBA, ABA and NOSSCR. Rebecca Gillespie, JD has spent her legal career assisting disabled individuals in pursuit of the benefits for which they are entitled. In addition being a founding partner to her practice, Rebecca is involved in supporting many different causes including Susan G. Komen for the Cure, The Westside Catholic Center, and Prayers from Maria. Rebecca graduated from Miami University with a B.A., and later earned her law degree from Cleveland Marshall College of Law. She is a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives (NOSSCR), as well as the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the Lorain County Bar Association, and the Akron Bar Association.
