Appendix I ICDL is the Home of DIR and DIRFloortime. The ICDL DIRFloortime Training Program offers the world s most recognized and respected DIRFloortime training and certificates. The Developmental, Individual Difference, Relationship-based (DIR ) Model is a framework that helps clinicians, parents and educators conduct a comprehensive assessment and develop an intervention program tailored to the unique challenges and strengths of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other developmental challenges. The objectives of the DIR Model are to build healthy foundations for social, emotional, and intellectual capacities rather than focusing solely on discrete skills and isolated behaviors. DIR 101 - OVERVIEW OF THE DIR MODEL AND FLOORTIME PRINCIPLES Training Purpose: This introductory training will introduce and examine the Developmental, Individual difference, Relationship-based (DIR) model, which is an established and recognized framework to understand a child s development that was developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan. DIR explains a child s developmental stages, individual differences, and the role emotion and relationships have in a child s development. The training will present an introduction to the DIRFloortime (AKA Floortime) approach, with the developmentally appropriate interactions, interventions, and practices geared to each child s developmental profile. The DIR model is applicable for all children and the DIRFloortime approach is particularly used as an intervention for children with Autism and other developmental disabilities. Completion of DIR 101 qualifies participants to register for the DIRFloortime advanced practitioner courses beginning with DIR 201: Promoting Basic Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities.
