20 April 2016 22 April 2016 Hotel & Anatomical Institute Barcelona, Spain AGENDA ADVANCED SAGITTAL ALIGNMENT & OSTEOTOMY INSTRUCTIONAL COURSE DEVELOPED BY PROFESSIONALS FOR PROFESSIONALS
WELCOME FACULTY Welcome to the Advanced Sagittal Alignment and Osteotomy Instructional course focusing on how to avoid and how to treat failed spine surgery in the thoracic and thoracolumbar spine with various osteotomy techniques. Sagittal plane measurements are recognized as being the most important radiographic parameters across numerous spinal pathologies. You will therefore learn how to analyse Sagittal key parameters by identifying imbalance and how to work through the ways of identifying the best surgical options for each patient. Different osteotomy procedures are then trained during didactic and practical anatomical lab sessions. This course is a unique opportunity to combine and get familiar with the pre-op sagittal alignment planning and the surgical treatment of the degenerative deformities of the spine by sharing knowledge between the faculty and delegates. I wish you a very instructive course! PROGRAM Day One Hotel, 20 April 2016 08:00 Welcome and introduction to the course M Andersson & Dr V Lafage SESSION 1: Sagittal Alignment and Measurements 08:10 Sagittal balance versus sagittal alignment Dr V Lafage Gravity line versus sagittal alignment This introductory talk will delineate the difference between balance, which is the complex task of maintaining an erect posture, and alignment, which is the relative location of anatomic entities in space. 08:30 Sagittal plane measurements and their clinical relevance Dr V Lafage Spino-pelvic parameters: You will learn how to measure the different parameters and develop a sense for what can be normal. Age related changes and correlations with clinical outcomes are also covered. Interaction between parameters: Spino-pelvic parameters have been described as being linked to each other by a chain of correlations. This academic analysis simply denotes that sagittal plan measurements are patient specific and that each patient uses compensatory mechanisms to keep an upright posture. 09:30 Coffee break SESSION 2: Spino-pelvic and Cervical measurements 09:45 Workshop: Measuring spino-pelvic parameters. All This interactive session will teach you how to measure sagittal plane parameters and how to identify red flags in the sagittal plane. 11:20 The sagittal balance of the cervical spine Dr F Pellisé Normal cervical alignment Compensatory mechanisms in the cervical spine Cervical deformity 12:00 Lunch SESSION 3: Surgical Planning and Cases 12:45 Sagittal plane and spinal pathologies Despite common belief, problems of the sagittal plane are not restricted primarily to post-operative Harington rods. Rather they relate to a large number of pathologies, from the simple to the more complex. This case based session will cover the following: Pediatric session Adult session Dr F Pellisé Dr F Pellisé
