MGD should understand why older people may suffer more tooth loss, and hence be able to apply the principles of life-long prevention of dental diseases and preservation of natural teeth on clients of all age in daily practice. The ultimate goal is to extend healthy longevity and minimise the disease burden to people towards their old age. MGD should be able to participate in the multi-disciplinary care team in providing quality and seamless dental care to older people along the spectrum of frailty. MGD should have thorough understanding of the principles underlying the Seattle Care Pathway, be able to consider social history and subjective expectations of older people, and be able to apply ethical principles in arriving at a client-centred dental treatment plan.

The management of dento-alveolar trauma in children is distressing for both child and parent and often difficult for the dentist. Trauma to the dentition should always be considered an emergency situation. It occurs frequently and results in functional and aesthetic disturbances accompanied by concern from both patient and parent. The dentist s responsibility is to act objectively and efficiently in such a situation. The children should be carefully assessed regarding treatment needs before commenting to parents because many cases are not as bad as they first appear. Initial reassurance to both parent and child is of great value. Trauma not only compromises a previously healthy dentition but may leave a deficit that also affects the self-esteem and quality of life and commits the patients to lifelong dental maintenance. After this lecture, attendees should able to describe and identify various types of traumatic injuries to primary and permanent teeth and their management. In addition, attendees should provide appropriate urgent dental treatment of traumatic dental injuries and knowing when to refer to a specialist or medical practitioner based on their clinical assessment. 7
