Mid-Lakes Orchid Society Page 2 Secretary s Report MLOS Monthly Meeting February 14, 2017 The meeting was called to order by our president, Ken Carter, at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. There were six guests at the meeting; all of them introduced themselves and were given a raffle ticket for the orchid plant raffle that was held at the end of the meeting. Mary Yatsko, our membership chair, reported that we have 87 paid members on the membership list. Suzanne Farnsworth, fundraiser chairperson, went over all the details concerning the MLOS auction scheduled for Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Women s Club located at 700 South 9th St. in Leesburg. Auction volunteers should arrive at 11:00 a.m. to help set up & stay at the end to help with cleanup. The speaker for the evening was our very own Jack Batchelor. He shared some very good tips about growing orchids, especially cattleyas. He recommended using 70% rubbing alcohol to clean leaves of bacteria, scale, and fungus. Jack also stated that using regular Listerine & peroxide or Tri-Star will control scale on orchids. He stated that SA 20 is an excellent fungicide. All of these treatments should be used when the air temperatures are cooler. Show-N-Tell was presented by Suzanne Farnsworth & Mike Sielaff. The winners of the silent auction were announced followed by the Raffle. Food was provided by Bobbi Reich & Nancy Gassler. Thanks to the volunteers for bringing various goodies. There is no one signed up to bring refreshments for the April meeting & only one person for the May meeting. Please contact Julie Allen at the March meeting if you would like to bring refreshments in April or May. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Julie H. Allen, Recording Secretary *********************************** Refreshments for the March 14, 2017 meeting will be provided by: Snacks: Carol Rock, Midge Taylor, Jean Harrman, Karen Morgeson, Judy Goldberg Drinks: Ken Carter Ice: Julia Allen WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBER Sue Balano President s Corner It does not seem possible that my term as president of MLOS will be coming to an end soon. I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing so many wonderful experiences with all of you. Now we need people to step up and volunteer to fill the positions that will be open for the next year (2017-2018). I know that Mid Lakes Orchid Society will continue to be a wonderful resource for all those who love orchids.
