SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION... continued Statements of hazard... continued Eye effects Skin effects Inhalation effects Ingestion effects Other potential health effects Additional data NOTE: THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS ETHANOL WHICH CAN CAUSE LIVER CHANGES, CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM EFFECTS, AND BIRTH DEFECTS IN THE DEVELOPING FETUS May cause irritation based on components. May cause irritation based on components. Exposure to high concentrations may cause irritation, headache, drowsiness, and symptoms of alcohol intoxication. An Occupational Exposure Limit has been established for one or more of the ingredients (see Section 8). May be harmful if swallowed based on components. Ingestion of large quantities may cause gastrointestinal tract irritation, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and symptoms of alcohol intoxication. Chronic ingestion of ethanol has been associated with an increased incidence of cancer, liver cirrhosis, and, if ingested during pregnancy, congenital malformations. However, occupational handling of this product is not expected to result in relevant exposures. For a more detailed discussion of potential health hazards and toxicity see Section 11. This document has been prepared in accordance with standards for workplace safety, which require the inclusion of all known hazards of the product or its ingredients regardless of the potential risk. The precautionary statements and warnings included may not apply in all cases. Your needs may vary depending upon the potential for exposure in your workplace. SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES Eyes Skin Inhalation Ingestion Immediately flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation occurs or persists, get medical attention. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash skin with soap and water. This material may not be completely removed by conventional laundering. Consult professional laundry service. Carbon dioxide, dry chemical, or foam 48 C (118.4 F) (TP-313) SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES General Small spill Large spill Review Sections 3, 8 and 12 before proceeding with clean up. Use non-combustible absorbent material to wipe up spill and place in a sealed container for disposal. Clean spill area thoroughly. Collect spill with a non-combustible absorbent material. Transfer all waste to a labeled container and move it to a secure holding area. SECTION 7 - HANDLING AND STORAGE General handling Storage conditions Temperature range for storage Use appropriate ventilation. Eliminate possible ignition sources (e.g., heat, sparks, flame, impact, friction, electricity), and follow appropriate grounding and bonding procedures. Avoid contact with eyes. Avoid breathing vapor or mist. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Protect from light. Keep container tightly closed when not in use. Keep away from heat, sparks, flame, and other sources of ignition. 20-25 C (68-77 F) SECTION 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION Exposure limits Compound Issuer Type OEL Ethanol ACGIH TWA-8 Hr 1000 ppm OSHA TWA-8 Hr 1000 ppm Hydrogen peroxide, 35% ACGIH TWA-8 Hr 1 ppm OSHA TWA-8 Hr 1 ppm; 1.4 mg/m 3 Ventilation Eye protection Good general ventilation should be sufficient to control airborne levels. Local and general ventilation should be used as necessary, when handling this material in bulk. Not required for the normal use of this product. SECTION 11 - TOXICOLOGY INFORMATION... continued Acute toxicity Compound Type Route Species Result Ethanol LD 50 Oral Rat 7,060 mg/kg LC 50 10h Inhalation Rat 20,000 ppm Irritation Ocular Rabbit Severe Hydrogen peroxide, 35% LD 50 Oral Rat 1232 mg/kg Irritation Dermal Rabbit Irritant LC 50 4h Inhalation Rat 2000 mg/m 3 Eye Skin Inhalation Ingestion Mutagenicity Subchronic effects Chronic toxicity Reproductive effects Teratogenicity Hydrogen peroxide is cytotoxic and caused DNA strand breaks in animal and human cells in culture. Growth retardation, induction of dental cavities, and pathological periodontal changes were observed in young male rats receiving 1.5% hydrogen peroxide as their drinking fluid for 8 weeks. Chronic ingestion of ethanol has been associated with an increased incidence of cancer, liver cirrhosis, and congenital malformations. However, occupational handling of this product is not expected to result in relevant exposures. Not determined for this product. No teratogenic effects were seen in rats and mice cutaneously exposed to hair dyes containing 3% hydrogen peroxide during pregnancy. Developmental effects have been reported in humans and experimental animals given large doses of ethanol during pregnancy. However, occupational handling of this product is not expected to result in relevant exposures. SECTION 12 - ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION Environmental overview The environmental characteristics of this material have not been fully evaluated. Releases to the environment should be avoided.
