East Region Committee Event Mindfulness and Wellbeing with Scott McInnes and Suzanne Donohoe Welcome 10 June 2015

Scott McInnes Internal Communications & Engagement, AIB 2

OBJECTIVES WHAT DO WE WANT THIS TO ACHIEVE? We want to help people leaders and bank staff - to be at their best and be present at work We want to increase levels of energy & wellbeing in the organisation and, in doing so, ensure our people are engaged in order to deliver on our customer promise And we want energy and wellbeing to become part of our DNA not an initiative but just something we do and think about every day In doing so we ll build resilience across the bank and better equip our people to handle on-going change in the business But we want to do it in a way that is a pragmatic and planned to ensure we create something that has longevity

BUT WHY BOTHER? Higher Productivity Reduced Sickness Improved Retention Improved Brand Higher Commitment Improved Resilience

STAFF WANT OUR SUPPORT 85% of UK workers say their employer has a responsibility to look after their health and wellbeing Over three quarters (78%) of employees said they would welcome their employer giving them support to think about their health and wellbeing 63% of employees think their work life may be having a negative impact on their health and wellbeing Almost two thirds (60%) of workers would feel more productive if they felt happy and well at work, while over half (55%) admitted they would be more focused. Three in five (58%) workers would be encouraged to think more about their health and wellbeing if their employer provided them with digital technology to help them to do this. 57% of employees said they would feel more motivated to achieve health and wellness goals if they could team up with colleagues Source : Bupa, January 2015

OUR JOURNEY. Appointed a team of Energy Champions Take the stairs campaign in Bankcentre Poster campaign to 270 branches Sep 13 Aug 14 Feb 15 Jul 14 Jan 15 Mar 15 Energy Workshops for 1,400 people leaders Launched the well intranet site the well expo New website Step Challenge Couch to 5k Lunchtime talks and more

ENERGISING OUR LEADERS A one day course attended by 1,400 people leaders Designed to help them bring their best selves to work and to help their people do the same Day focused on looking at 4 key energy quadrants and then creating rituals to help attendees focus in areas of greatest impact Video

THE ENERGY CHAMPION NETWORK IS UP AND RUNNING 50 Energy Champions came together for the Energy Champion Launch Day in Sept and shared lots of ideas on embedding the health, energy and well being agenda across AIB The Champions tried out different energy ideas e.g. Human Fuel Station, Step Challenge, Mini- Energy Sessions, Energy Awareness Days, walking clubs ENERGY CHAMPION PRINCIPLES We will personally live our own Energy rituals We will meet our SMT / Team Lead to talk them through our Energy plan We will test and try some energy ideas out in our area with an initial focus on Physical We will capture and share our Energy stories with other champions and the central team We will regularly check in with our champion buddy groups

BREAKING COVER WITH THE WELL Structured around the four energy quadrants Energy Audit Helping staff to help themselves Updated frequently to keep content fresh and relevant to staff

THE INTRANET S BEEN A GREAT LAUNCH PLATFORM Over 19,200 visits since launch 2,000 staff completed Plainly there s more to do AIB Results

GETTING THE SIMPLE THINGS RIGHT AND GETTING PEOPLE TO THINK! Take the stairs Focus on Bankcentre and other large office locations Poster campaigns Focus on 270 non-office locations

THE WELL EXPO We invited 20 AIB customers to Bankcentre to share their products and services with staff and their experience in a series of 10 minute seminars

AND MORE Informal mentoring and coaching Lunchtime Seminars Planning for thinking time for teams Fruit Baskets Mini-energy sessions Operation Transformation Multiple step challenges Team renewal breaks Environment de-cluttering initiatives (space savers) Tag Rugby Teams Local time arrangements for fitness classes Nutrition emails Energy Stands at events Mindfulness sessions 5-a-side football Couch to 5k groups Reinvigorating Sports & Social

WE VE RECEIVED GREAT FEEDBACK & IDEAS I really admire what AIB is trying to do with the well initiative. I think too often large corporations pay lip service to employee health and wellbeing with no real investment being made. Let me start by saying that this is a wonderful idea! My colleagues have on many occasions queried whether it would be possible for AIB to run lunchtime mindfulness classes? My pal works in PWC they bring in a unit once a year to give the flu injection to anyone that wants it. Another great idea to save on sickness. I think that it would be fantastic if Bankcentre and other AIB locations could organise something like slimming classes. Staff will help and support each other in reaching their goals, and it will help staff to make new friends also. It's really great to see the launch of AIB's wellness initiative. I think it recognises the tough times faced by staff over the last number of years and the need for positive energy and renewal as the bank moves forward. A suggestion to reach all the facets of "the well" would be to revamp the restaurant menu. I think it would be great for staff to have a gym facility within Bankcentre or at least an exercise room where people could bring their own mats and gentle equipment to work out before/after work or at lunchtime

SO WHAT S NEXT? An upgraded well site with more frequently updated content, ability for staff to comment on and share articles; and the option to view content outside the office Couch to 5k programme using staff around the country to lead groups Bank-wide step challenge Health, Energy and wellbeing seminar series through the year And more..

THANK YOU
