The 2016 Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute CME Symposium Friday, April 1 Chicago, Illinois 7:15 am 3:00 pm Sponsored by Northwestern Medicine

Brain cancer is a rare type of cancer, accounting for only about 1.4 percent of all new cancer cases in the United States. The Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute (NBTI) was established to meet the needs of patients harboring rare diagnoses; their comprehensive and multidimensional care issues are difficult to address in isolated silos within institutions or across multiple campuses. By channeling the expertise of faculty and staff from multiple departments, NBTI brings together, in one place, every tool needed to treat brain tumors.

The 2016 Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute CME Symposium Course directors James P. Chandler, MD and Jeffrey J. Raizer, MD This educational program is geared toward healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with brain tumors. The most up-to-date research, including surgical and clinical evidence-based information, will be presented and reinforced through case discussions. Please join Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine faculty on Friday, April 1, for this informal and interactive discussion. For more information, please contact Sarah Baggs at Northwestern Memorial HealthCare at 312.926.7975. Program objectives After attending this educational activity, participants should be able to: 1 Review current treatment strategies for gliomas and discuss treatment challenges in special patient populations. 2 Interpret new clinical data on experimental agents currently under evaluation in gliomas and other brain tumors to identify opportunities to optimize treatment. 3 Review new research on cell biology, signal transduction inhibition strategies, and factors associated with angiogenesis and invasion in brain tumors. 4 Discuss the indications for endoscopic or endoscope-assisted surgical procedures. 5 Discuss the current data on radiotherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery for gliomas. 6 Discuss the current developments in novel therapeutic agents. 7 Review the current clinical trial options. 8 Review the treatment of typical pediatric tumors presenting in adults. 9 Discuss treatments of other meningiomas, pituitary and skull base tumors, and brain metastases.
