Have yu ever wanted t build a better musetrap? Have yu ever wanted t build a musical instrument? D yu have questins abut a tpic that yu have wanted t research n yur wn? D yu have a secret passin t write a play? Nw is yur chance! The Persnal Prject is yur prject t d what yu want t d, t shw the skills yu have develped ver the years in yur subjects fcusing n a particular lens, and applying them t a gal. The Persnal Prject is an individual prject cmpleted in yur 10 th grade year. It cnsists f three main cmpnents: a prject, a prcess jurnal, and a reprt. Yu have the pprtunity t chse yur tpic and enjy learning abut it as yu research and develp yur chsen prduct. Thrugh this prject, students: Demnstrate the persnal abilities and skills required t prduce and present an extended piece f wrk Engage in persnal inquiry, actin and reflectin n specific tpics and issues Fcus n, and demnstrate an understanding f, glbal cntexts Reflect n learning and share knwledge, views, and pinins with the brader cmmunity What it is, what it is nt It shuld have a clear and achievable gal, be fcused thrugh ne glbal cntext, be persnal & riginal, entirely yur wn wrk, and mst imprtantly be smething that interests YOU! It shuld nt be part f any assessed schl curse wrk, be linked t clsely with any specific subject, r take ver yur whle persnal and scial life. 3

What are sme examples f what I can d? a fitness prgram riginal piece f writing/art/music/drama an inventin, r specially designed bject r system a survey and reprt n a pressing schl issue explring family histries r persnal stries riginal science experiment the presentatin f a develped business, management, r rganizatinal plan create a sprt r game research an idea (i.e. hw clrs affect ur mds) The final prduct can be written, a creatin, presentatin, prduct, prject, r any ther culminatin f yur effrt and wrk. It must be well recrded in yur prcess jurnal as it develps. The prcess is just as imprtant as the final prduct! Yur final prduct may invlve thers, but remember that yur wn cntributin must be central t the event, and clearly visible. Use yur prcess jurnal and reprt t shw what yu specifically cntributed t the prduct s success. What are sme examples frm Shaker? Creating a YuTube series Develping a fundraiser Building a cmputer Creating a vide game Prducing fashin pht-sht Writing a news/jurnal article Taking up a new instrument Penning a shrt stry Cmpsing sngs fr an album Learning statistics Perfrming in a play Teaching at sccer camp Caching Science Olympiad Cmmentating n vide games Shadwing a dctr Learning hw t weld Making a ukulele Establishing a salsa cmpany 4

Wh will help me? Yu are nt alne n this jurney. Yu will have a supprt team f Shaker staff and ptentially cmmunity members that will prvide sme guidance and supprt alng the way. This supprt team at least cnsists f yur advisry teacher, wh will intrduce the prject and g ver the nuts n blts f hw it will prgress, as well as a persnal supervisr wh will meet with yu thrughut the year t prvide specific feedback and guidance abut yur individual prject. What will the final Persnal Prject lk like? It must include three elements: the prject itself, the reprt (minimum 1,500 wrds) and the prcess jurnal 1. The Outcme The actual utcme frm the prject itself will be submitted. It may take a variety f physical frms, such as a tangible prduct r design. If it is an activity r an event, it shuld be recrded and available fr review with yur supervisr. This is what yu ve been wrking s hard t bring abut! 2. The Reprt Besides the actual utcme f yur gal, the reprt is the mst imprtant part f the Persnal Prject prcess. The reprt is yur detailed analysis f yur entire prject and the prcess f develpment. It explains hw, why, and what yu did, in a well-structured and rganized manner. The reprt shuld be cmpleted with the fllwing sectins: 1. Investigating 2. Planning 3. Taking Actin 4. Reflecting Yur reprt may be recrded rally r visually (13-15 minutes) r written (1,500-3,500 wrds). Mre infrmatin is prvided in the Appendix. 3. Prcess Jurnal Yu are required t maintain a prcess jurnal f yur Persnal Prject. Yur prcess jurnal shuld have all yur rugh ideas (even if yur ideas change ver the duratin f the prject), rugh drawings, ideas, etc. It is a practical wrkbk. Recrd yur prgress in the jurnal, and use yur ntes/drawings t reflect n yur ideas, achievements, bstacles, etc. Suggested Frmat Here are sme headings yu culd use t help prvide a structure t yur jurnal, ensuring yu make the best use f the jurnaling prcess. Yur criteria may take the frm f a checklist r rubric inside f yur prcess jurnal, but regardless f its frm and lcatin, the criteria must be pre-determined and strve fr. What is it that yu want t achieve, and hw are yu ging t knw yu ve dne it well? That is the essence f the criteria. Rle f the Supervisr A supervisr will advise yu thrughut the prject, meet yu n a regular basis and make sure yu cmplete the varius stages f the prject accrding t the deadlines. Yur supervisr need nt necessarily be an expert in what yu want t d, but will be able t guide and help yu as needed. The supervisr will als sign the timetable as yu cmplete the steps f the prject. Yu may decide with yur schl supervisr t have anther persn frm utside f the schl wh can give yu mre expert help and wh will act as yur mentr. Eventually, yur supervisr will evaluate yur prject based n the Persnal Prject criteria & rubrics. Wrk clsely with yur supervisr s that yu meet all the expectatins f the prject. Supervisr Meetings Bth the supervisr and student need t acknwledge the imprtance f regular cntact and will cmmit t ne anther t meet upn the designated days n the schl calendar. If a student shuld miss a persnal prject meeting, they must cntact their supervisr t setup anther. Each student must meet with their supervisr a minimum f 4 times thrughut the year. A supervisr will initial the Supervisr Meeting Frm (see Appendix) t prvide evidence that regular meetings have ccurred. The supervisr meeting frm als cntains a list f dicussin pints fr each meeting.
