These members exemplify the mission of the Tulsa Chapter of Oklahoma Society of CPAs in their professions and communities. If you would like to nominate someone to be featured please contact Deanne Nunn at ydunn@cox.net. November 2017 Highlight Al and Janice Garbart Tulsa Chapter Member since June 2007 5 What was your first job after passing the CPA Exam? Janice: Corporate Accounts Payable Manager with Scott Rice Company. My CPA status helped me advance in my 15 year career in Office Furniture/ Supplies to South East Regional Controller with Corporate Express. Al: MAPCO Retail Division in Tulsa handling accounting close for 24 convenience stores in Alaska. Also responsible for budgets and cash flow analysis and forecasts. What type of accounting do you do? Janice: After Corporate Express, I decided to settle down in Tulsa (with little travel) in a 17 year Fixed Asset/General Accounting career in Alliance Coal LLC's Tulsa Corporate office. (Recently retired July 31, 2017). Al: Mostly staff positions as corporate Controller or contract positions managing forecasting and cash position for the last twenty-five plus years until retirement in 2016. How do you give back to the Community? Janice: Mostly through my church and donations to various charities. My most fun time in charity work was when Al and I volunteered in the beer tents at Octoberfest years ago. Al: I give back as Financial Reporter for my church for the last 15 plus years and through donations to United Way, ALS and MEND. What do you do in your free time? Janice: I enjoy our grandchildren (having 7 in the Broken Arrow area). Now that I am retired, I look forward to going to the gym and reading. Also traveling and taking vacations around month end and year-end will be great! Al: I enjoy driving, maintenance and showing my 1980 Triumph TR7 at car shows regionally. We also love spending time at the beach weather it be the ocean or gulf.

Member Highlight Continued... How do you benefit from your Tulsa Chapter membership? Janice: I have appreciated the monthly luncheons to supplement my CPE, attending when my work life didn't interfere. Over the years I have also enjoyed the baseball games, bowling and other activities. Al: I feel the networking aspect along with the CPE opportunities are the main benefits. I also enjoy the various activities bowling, zoo and baseball games. 6
