Falkirk Service Newsletter Inspection In June the Care Inspectorate conducted their annual inspection of the service which focused on 4 key areas. Results were very positive and reflect the person centered approach to our work and how this is received by both those with dementia and their carer. The Care Inspectorate rates services 1 to 6 with a 6 being excellent. Quality of Care and Support-5 Quality of Environment-5 Quality of Staffing-5 Quality of Management and Leadership-4 We scored very well, but have dropped a little in one element around monitoring and audit systems. Given how busy the service has been over the past year I am not surprised by this, and over the next year we will look at increasing the management time to build in better monitoring. If you would like a copy of this report it is available on line at www.scswis.com or contact the office on 01324 559480 and we will send one out to you. Hogmanay Ceilidh 31 st December 2013 Tickets are now available for Alzheimer Scotland s Hogmanay Ceilidh. This will take place at Grangemouth Town Hall on 31 st December 2013 from 8pm-1am. Tickets cost 20 for adults and 7.50 for under 16s. Live music will be provided by Scotland s Ceilidh Band and their expert caller will make sure you will not miss a dance. Bring your own bottle and buffet! Tickets are selling fast so phone us now to book your ticket on 01324 559480. Dementia Advisor return from Maternity leave Justine Davidson has returned from maternity leave and is looking forward to her role which is to support people with dementia and their family and friends. She can provide 1:1 information and advice, and help you find the dementia support that you need. She will be involved in doing awareness raising work around creating dementia friendly communities and will support people with dementia and their carers to remain connected within their local community.

Royal Garden Party A Grand Day Out We were surprised and delighted to be nominated to attend the Royal Garden Party in Holyrood in July. Posh frocks and hats were the order of the day as staff from Day Care, Home Support and the office mingled with the crowds. It was a soggy affair on the day as the heavens opened but it didn t dampen our spirits one bit. It was a real privilege to be nominated and her majesty does an impressive purvey! Food for Thought We would like to offer an opportunity for people to reminiscence about particular foods and recipes that they have from their past. This may be special occasions like Christmas, birthdays or everyday weekly meals. If we can collect enough recipes and anecdotes about food enjoyed, or family rituals around food and meal times then we would look to compile these into a publication to print and sell. It would be useful to include a name for any dishes that you are happy to share with us. Sainsbury s in Denny will have a post box in store where you can submit these or you can email them to jdavidson@alzscot.org or post them to the local service. Sainsbury s in Denny have made Alzheimer Scotland- Falkirk Services their local charity of the year and will be fundraising throughout the year with can collections to help fund our local services. These funds will be used to provide care and support to people with dementia throughout the course of their condition. There will be a very visible presence in the Denny store with branch members fundraising for us. Justine Davidson, Dementia Advisor for the Falkirk service will also be in the store on 21 st September with an information stand to mark World Alzheimer s Day. World Alzheimer s Day, held on September 21 st of each year, is a day on which Alzheimer s organizations around the world concentrate their efforts on raising awareness about Alzheimer s and dementia. Carers Information Courses We hold 3 information courses per year over a period of 5 weeks each to provide comprehensive information to family carers of people with dementia.
