What is Muschamp Children s Centre...and how can it help families? Muschamp Children s Centre provides a happy, caring and understanding environment, where each family member is valued and is able to develop to their full potential. See our timetable of services on pages 4-5. Working with partners agencies to offer parents better services We bring together professionals from Health, Education, the Family Information Service and many other agencies to assist and encourage you with the important job of raising a family. Every Child Matters We are working together to ensure all children and parents benefit from achieving the Every Child Matters outcomes: Being Healthy Staying Safe Enjoying and Achieving Achieving Economic Well-being Making a Positive Contribution Partner Agencies Sutton FIS Sutton Family Information Service Muschamp Children s Centre work with Sutton Family Information Service to provide families with information on: Parent and family support services Benefits and financial support Childcare including nurseries, holiday schemes and funding Activities and services for children with additional needs and disabilities Support to access work and/or training opportunities The Centre s Family Information Advisor drops in to the Centre and works out in the community. Massage Paula Woolterton is a trained baby massage therapist. She runs four week courses from the Centre for babies aged 3 months to 1 years old. massage can be beneficial for both the mother and baby and helps to encourage the bonding process. EIPS Early Intervention and Prevention Service EIPS is responsible for providing individual, group and/or family support services to families across the Borough. Muschamp Children s Centres Family Support Worker, Karen Bennett, runs practical parenting workshops dealing with potty training, temper tantrums, sleeping and much more. Karen also works with families on a one to one basis. Health Services Muschamp Children s Centre works with the Sutton and Merton Community Services and St Helier Hospital to run a number of services from the Centre. These include: Well Clinic Tuesday 9.30 to 11.00am Breastfeeding Drop In Tuesday 10.00am to 12.00pm Antenatal Clinics Wednesday afternoons for mums to be under the age of 20 Thursday afternoons for mums over the age of 20 Mini Munchers / Weaning Workshop Second Thursday of every month 10.00 to 11.00am British Red Cross The British Red Cross offer 3 week courses in Emergency Life Support giving parents a recognised certificate in first aid. SCOLA Sutton College of Learning for Adults (SCOLA) is the premier provider of Adult Education and Community Learning in the London Borough of Sutton. SCOLA work with Muschamp Children s Centre to provide families with the opportunity to access short courses such as literacy and numeracy.

For 0-18 months 1.45 to 2.45pm Messy Play An exciting group for all things arty, crafty & messy! 10.00-11.30am Massage 4 week course for babies aged 1-12 months. Costs apply. Childminder Drop-in notice board Sausage and Bean Stew A session for childminders and their minded children. An opportunity for childminders to network whilst their minded children play in a stimulating environment. The Centre provides a variety of activities including messy play and music sessions which are run on a rolling programme. At the end of each session the children sit down for a healthy snack and childminders get a well deserved cup of tea. Childminder can also borrow a wide range of resources from our toy library, speak to the Boroughs Childminding Development Officer who drops in once a month and access information on planning and training. April June July 16th Play and Stay 23rd Messy Play 30th Free Session 4th Bank Holiday / Centre Closed 11th Messy Play 18th Play and stay 25th Music and Rhyme 2nd Free Session 9th Messy Play 16th Play and Stay May 7th Bank Holiday / Centre Closed 14th Music and Rhyme 21st Play and Stay 28th Free Session What you will need: What to do: 2 reduced fat sausages 2 tsp olive oil 1 large onion 2 garlic cloves 400g tin of cannellini or butter beans in water drained 400g of passata or 1 400g tin of chopped tomatoes 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into small cubes 2 tsp dried basil or mixed herbs Black pepper 1) Preheat the grill. Grill the sausages for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until they re thoroughly cooked. 2) Whilst the sausages are cooking, heat the olive oil in a large saucepan and gently fry the onion and garlic for 2-3 minutes. 3) Add the passata or chopped tomatoes, cannellini beans or butterbeans, potatoes and basil/ mixed herbs. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender. 5) Slice the sausages and add them the saucepan. Stir and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Alternatively if you are looking for a bouncer or walker why not take a look next time you are in the Centre and see what is up for grabs. Ideas for Play at Home Puzzles Do a simple jigsaw puzzle with your child. If you don t have any puzzles, you can make your own by cutting up a picture from a magazine into 4 to 6 pieces can your child put them back together to make the picture? Treasure Box You and your child could make up a treasure box along a theme. You could get some pots and pans, pretend food and some soft toys and get ready for a picnic. Or get some old jewellery, an eye patch and a treasure map and get ready for a pirate adventure. These tips come from the Hello Campaign. For more information and tips you can visit their website www.hello.org.uk add this to your boiling water. Instead of food colouring you can use fruit tea bags which give a lovely smell too. What you will need: One cup of flour Half a cup of salt One tablespoon of Crème of tartar 3) Add the boiling water to the other ingredients and mix well One tablespoon of oil until all ingredients combined. One cup of boiling water 4) Take the dough out of the bowl and knead for a few minutes.
