You deserve a respite from the ceaseless demands of graduate school! Thursday, January 12, 11am-2pm, GSA Lounge (MCC Building 2nd Floor) TAKE THE WHEEL CHALLENGE Participate in 1 challenge from each wellness category this quarter, and earn a FREE T-Shirt and a chance at great prizes like Fitbits and a MacBook Air! Register at STARTS: Monday, January ENDS: Wednesday, March 15 #TakeTheWheelChallenge U CAN SLEEP BETTER CHALLENGE Take this week long online sleep challenge to improve your sleep habits, improve test performance, and boost your health! Register at STARTS: Monday, January 30 ENDS: Tuesday, February 7 ADVOCATE MEETINGS All students interested in Health & Wellness are invited to attend Advocate meetings on a drop-in basis. Meetings include professional development, hands-on experience with health promotion, social connection, and volunteer opportunities ranging from short-term community service to paid internships. Regardless of level of experience, topic of interest, or major, all students are welcome to participate. Healthy snacks provided at every meeting. Every Wednesday at 7pm, Building 434, Room 147
3 COMMUNITY MINDFULNESS PRACTICE Take a moment to join us in our safe and comfortable space for a free guided mindfulness and compassion meditation. These sessions may help reduce stress, improve your ability to concentrate, and enable you to understand your thoughts and feelings better. Please come as you are and feel the powerful benefits of meditation after each session. Our programs do not require any particular experience or beliefs and are available throughout the quarter. Guided Meditation with Dawa Phillips SRB Student Conference room, 1st floor, January 10 March 14, 1:05-2pm Mindfulness For Social Justice with Spencer Sherman, PhD South Hall, Room 1623, January 13 March 17, 1-2pm FOOD, NUTRITION AND BASIC SKILLS The Food, Nutrition and Basic Skills program provides students who may have a limited understanding regarding nutrition, food preparation, grocery shopping, and budgeting with increased knowledge and practical skills. The program consists of a free series of workshops in four tracks: Cooking and nutrition, Connecting to your Food, Budgeting and Planning, and Kitchen Basics. This program is provided to students in partnership with the UC Global Food Initiative. Free food samples provided. Any student that completes 1 workshop in each track will receive a free kitchen start up kit! NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY: Sharpening Your Cooking Skills Learn the way of the blade! Come practice basic knife skills and safety while building the perfect snack! No experience necessary. FRUIT BOWL PROJECT Thanks to a generous gift from the Bragg Health Institute, Health & Wellness distributes fresh, local and organic fruit to 17 departments on campus. See our website for a complete list of locations where you can pick up a piece of fresh fruit on Mondays and Wednesdays. wellness.ucsb.edu WELLNESS CENTERS Our Drop-In Wellness Centers provide students opportunities to meet with Wellness resource professionals, receive FREE chair massages from a certified massage therapist, and grab fresh fruit.
