2. 5) CORRESPONDENCE Don West spoke to the following correspondence: North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit Re: Endorsement of Action for Smoke-Free Multi-Unit Housing Copy of letter, dated January 20 th, to Smoke-Free Housing Co-chairs, advising of their Board's resolution to sign the Smoke-Free Ontario Housing Coalition's letter of Endorsement of Action for Smoke Free Multi-Housing in their actions and policies to reduce the exposure of second-hand smoke in multi-unit housing. Grey Bruce Health Unit Re: Cannabis Regulation and Control: Public Health Approach to Legalization Copy of letter, dated January 20 th, to Prime Minister Trudeau, advising of their Board's resolution in support of Sudbury & District Health Unit's resolution regarding cannabis regulation and control and supporting a public health approach to cannabis legalization. Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit Re: Legislation to Enforce Infection Prevention and Control Practices within Invasive Personal Service Settings under the Health Protection and Promotion Act Copy of letter, dated January 21 5t, to Premier Wynne, urging the Government of Ontario to enact legislation for infection prevention and control requirements for invasive PSS under the Health Protection and Promotion Act with a suitable enforcement program such as short-form working under the Provincial Offences Act.

3. 6) PROGRAM MANAGER REPORT Falls Prevention - Joelle Aubin, Manager of Chronic Diseases and Injury Prevention Joelle Aubin highlighted the work that has been done around the Stay on Your Feet strategy across our area in 2015. Highlights included the creation of a local coalition involving seniors to determine our priorities, the promotion of the 9 steps to prevent falls, and the work done in collaboration with 4 other Health Units, the NE LHIN, and different community partners. n PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT a) Dental Program - Anna Gauthier, Program Coordinator Andre Rheaume thanked Anna Gauthier for providing an informative presentation on the Porcupine Health Unit's Dental Program. b) Smoke-Free Multi-Unit Housing MOVED BY: Marie Leonard SECONDED BY: Rick Lafleur WHEREAS smoking in multi-unit housing results in significant exposure to the health harming effects of tobacco smoke; and WHEREAS area municipalities and service boards that are landlords of multi-unit housing can adopt no-smoking policies that set an example and protect health; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Health for the Porcupine Health Unit support the efforts of the Smoke-Free Housing Ontario Coalition, and others, in the following actions and policies to reduce the exposure of second-hand smoke in multi-unit housing: (1) Encourage all landlords and property owners of multi-unit housing to voluntarily adopt no-smoking policies in their rental units or properties; (2) Advocate that all future private sector rental properties and buildings developed in Ontario should be smoke-free from the onset; (3) Encourage publidsocial housing providers to voluntarily adopt no-smoking policies in their units and/or properties;

4. 7) PROGRAM COMMITIEE REPORT (cont'd) b) Smoke-Free Multi-Unit Housing (cont'd) (4) Advocate that all future publidsocial housing developments in Ontario should be smoke-free from the onset; (5) Encourage the Ontario Ministry of Housing to develop government policy and programs to facilitate the provision of smoke-free housing. FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT a copy of this motion be submitted to the Smoke-Free Housing Ontario Coalition, the Ontario Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, local members of Provincial Parliament (MPP), the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Association of Local Public Health Agencies (alpha), all Ontario Boards of Health, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FNOM) and Porcupine Health Unit municipalities for their information and support. c) Northern Ontario Evacuations of First Nations Communities MOVED BY: Rick Lafleur SECONDED BY: Marie Leonard THAT the Board of Health for the Porcupine Health Unit support Thunder Bay District Health Unit's resolu~ion # 50-2015, and The Corporation of the Town of Iroquois Falls resolution # 2015-307, requesting that the provincial government address the ongoing -lack of resources and infrastructure to ensure the safe, efficient and effective temporary relocation of First Nations communities in Northwestern Ontario and the James Bay coast when they face environmental and weather related threats in the form of seasonal flooding and forest fires; AND THAT this resolution be forwarded to the Premier of Ontario, Ministers responsible for Health and Long-Term Care, Community Safety and Correctional Services, Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry, the Association of Local Public Health Agencies (alpha), local area Members of Provincial Parliament and Ontario Boards of Health.
