The Autism Society of the RMWB grew out of a dream, held by a group of passionate and determined parents. It was established in 2010 as a support group that came together to create opportunities for their children and families that were lacking in our region. As the need grew so did the vision of the group. In 2014 the group partnered with Autism Society Alberta. After operating and funding a fully supported specialized summer camp and hosting a variety of community activities it was apparent that there was an even greater need for services and supports. In September 2016 a board was formed and in November of the same year the doors to the office opened. March 3 rd 2017 the certificate of incorporation under the government of Alberta societies act was received. The Autism Society has been working within our community for a year, assisting with connecting families to resources and supports to aid them with navigating autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It is dedicated to offer education and awareness programs free of charge to anyone who may benefit. We believe that in order to support the individual we need to educate the community. Currently we provide individuals with supports, information, programs and assistance with everything from connecting with healthcare, education, funding and personal support services. Our office houses a lending shelf, sensory store and an ambassador program. We have begun to collaborate and partner with other organizations in our community in hopes of creating more diverse and inclusive opportunities in our community. More than 100 guests are expected to attend, representing Wood Buffalos consumers, educators, health service providers, community service providers, and leaders. 1 in 68 children are currently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and the prevalence of ASD has increased over 100% in the last 10 years. By those statistics approximately 1200 persons could have ASD in our communities. Autism is now the fastest growing and most commonly diagnosed neurological disorder in Canada. Yet Wood Buffalo still lacks resources and supports for our families who call this home. They are sent down highway 63 regularly to obtain what they should have access to in their own home town. With the support of your company you could be in a position of being on the forefront of supporting those in our community who have been struggling. The Autism Awareness Gala is a stepping stone to begin to reach our community. Both in raising awareness as well as needed funding for the programs and outreach work the society does. The Art of Giving When you become a Gallery Sponsor for the 2018 Autism Awareness Art Gala your gift is Gallery sponsors have the opportunity to purchase a piece of art from a local artist that will in turn be donated to the Autism Society to be auctioned off at the Gala. A portfolio of artists and samples of their work are included in this package from which sponsors can choose the piece they wish to purchase. Each Gallery sponsor will receive the following; Up to 2 tickets to attend the gala (dependant of amount of sponsorship.) 4 tickets to the VIP cocktail hour. ¼ page add in the event program.
