How a Federation/Community Foundation/United Way Can Support Equality & Inclusion throughout Community Agencies and Beyond Jewish Federation of Greater Washington Executive Vice President and CEO Steve Rakitt and Community Disabilities Inclusion Specialist Lisa Handelman March 2016 Special Thanks to: 1

Speakers Steven A. Rakitt is the Executive Vice President and CEO of The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, a mission-driven non-profit organization dedicated to community building, fundraising to support local and overseas needs in the Jewish community and creating bridges of understanding and support between the DC community, Israel and Israelis. Under Steve s leadership, Federation has launched numerous key initiatives, including a visionary three-year fundraising plan that will allow the organization to strengthen its support of critical programs and services; exciting and innovative programs that have engaged tens of thousands in the Jewish community; and reimagining how the organization supports Israel with the launch of the new Imagine: Israel initiative, designed to more closely connect the DC community with Israel and Israelis. Steve is an active member of Jewish Federations of North America s Large City Executives Forum, a member of the Executive Committees of the Jewish Agency for Israel and Jewish Federations of North America and is the immediate past co-chair for The Tarrytown Group, an organization of the largest Jewish foundations and Federations in North America. Lisa Handelman is the Community Disabilities Inclusion Specialist at the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, Department of Jewish Life and Learning. She has worked in Jewish education and inclusion for over 20 years, including leadership roles at the Yeshiva of Greater Washington, SULAM, CESJDS and at Capital Camps where she designed and led the nationally recognized inclusion-based program for the past 13 summers.
