Disharmony and malfunction of organs affect one s appearance To keep a healthy and youthful appearance, attention must be paid to the prevention of disease and the preservation of health. 5
Health preservation starts during pregnancy: e.g., oranges eaten by the expectant mother are good for the eyes of the baby and apples and carrots good for the skin. However, stress/anxiety, smoking and drinking may cause dry skin, even eczema in babies. 6
From childhood until puberty, appearance is not normally a main concern, unless one suffers from skin conditions. My talk will therefore focus on mature people whose appearances are often affected by hormonal imbalance and other physiological changes that happen as they go through different stages in life. 7
Pigmentation 面部黄褐斑 Symptoms: These symptom are often seen in middle age women especially during pregnancy, breast feeding and after labour. They are some times seen on the tummy, under arms,neck.they are accompanied with tiredness, fatigue dizziness, palpetations, low labido. Tongue: pale purple thin-whitecoating, pulse: deep, thready. Causes: Deficiency of Qi & Blood of Chong & Ren channels with Qi & Blood stasis. Treatment principle: Regulate Qi & Blood of Chong and Ren channels by tonify Qi & Blood and Remove blood stasis. Summary A key element of looking after one s appearance is skin care, in particular, facial skin care (cleaning, toning and moisturising). However, TCM believes that a youthful appearance is also dependent on the state and function of the internal organs.
