CURRICULUM VITAE Bonny van Steensel was born on September 1 st 1983, in Valkenswaard, the Netherlands. She finished high school in 2000. She started following higher education and finished her first year of social work in 2001. She then studied psychology at the University of Tilburg. In 2005, she graduated cum laude with a major in child psychology, a minor in neuropsychology, and an extra minor in health care psychology. From 2006 to 2008, she worked as a research assistant at a mental health care center (child and youth department), in Maastricht. She participated in different research projects involving children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), anxiety disorders, depression, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and behavior problems (Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder). In 2008, she entered a PhD program at the Research Institute of Child Development and Education, University of Amsterdam. The focus of her PhD project was to examine (the treatment of) anxiety disorders in children with ASD of which the results are (partially) presented in this dissertation. During her PhD period, she obtained a certificate for the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised version (ADI-R), and followed several (statistical) courses resulting in a PhD Training Certificate. She was in the PhD board of the national inter-university research institute for the Study of Education and Human Development (ISED) for three years, and started to participate in clinical work at UvA minds. She has presented the study findings at several national and international conferences and received the Dr. Leo Kannerhuis award for the study on cognitive-behavioral therapy as a treatment for anxiety disorders in children with ASD. Since September 2012, Bonny is working as a researcher/lecturer at the University of Amsterdam, and as a psychologist at UvA minds. 229
