THE COUNCIL OF BRITISH CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE IN EUROPE COBCOE MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION PACK Join the international chamber community Help your members reach new markets Access new opportunities and support services Create more value for members www.cobcoe.eu

About COBCOE What is COBCOE? COBCOE is the membership organisation for British chambers of commerce and business associations in Europe. Founded in 1973 as Britain was joining the European Economic Community, COBCOE has become recognised as a driving force and facilitator of international trade and business. Today, COBCOE has members across most European countries, from Norway in the north to Cyprus in the south, and from Portugal in the west to Russia in the east. Businesses belonging to COBCOE members now number around 12,000. Some 50 chambers of commerce and other non-profits promoting international trade are affiliated to COBCOE. These affiliates include UK-based chambers of commerce, British chambers of commerce located around the world and other organisations that promote international trade and investment. Full membership is open to all British chambers of commerce and business groups in Europe. What does COBCOE do? Acting as an umbrella organisation, we work with our members, affiliates and corporate partners to remove barriers to international trade and business. We do this by focusing on the areas outlined below. International trade support Through the Make Europe Work! programme, we have developed a range of services, engaged with service providers and created a support scheme from our network. We also publish a magazine and are compiling an online Knowledge Bank. We organise events and can also organise and support delegations to and from the UK. Representation and thought leadership The Evolving Europe and Brexit Ambition initiatives aim to ensure that the voice of European business is heard by legislators and negotiators. Our Brexit Ambition project aims to ensure that negotiators on both sides are aware of the realities of existing, complex network of business relationships in order to protect them.

Creating real business opportunities and value to chamber members COBCOE Connects is a revolutionary new digital platform for international trade launched in 2017 and still evolving. It links chambers of commerce and like-minded partner business organisations online so that businesses can find trusted contacts in new markets that are matched to their individual needs. It is a valuable, low cost business development tool that combines the latest technology with personal moderation by local experts, View COBCOE Connects website How does COBCOE membership benefit your chamber and your members? An international network COBCOE is a multilateral network providing access to business contacts, professional services and support. Our network of members covers more than 35 European countries, while our affiliate programme provides access to chambers and other business organisations in the UK and around the world. By belonging to COBCOE, our members and your members can benefit from being part of a large, international family. This is also advantageous when it comes to organising delegations or events, as well as helping with many different kinds of business contacts and personal introductions. Training Academy The Annual Training Academy is more than a two-day training course and benefits the staff of chambers in several ways: It provides valuable training developed specifically for chambers of commerce, covering key areas such as membership recruitment, development and structuring, as well as marketing and communications, future trends and technologies, and capacity building, creating a centre of excellence in best practice for the network. COBCOE Training Academy is a unique forum for chambers of commerce staff to share their experiences and solutions in a supportive and understanding atmosphere. Many

find themselves competing with other chambers in their home markets, whereas this forum makes it possible to discuss issues openly. Chamber staff create long-term friendships at the Training Academy which serve them well in supporting international trade with peers to call upon without hesitation for support and assistance. Giving your members a voice We represent the views of our members and their members to official bodies, governments and the media, and we undertake research to establish what their views are. Over the years, we have developed relationships with a wide range of government bodies and dignitaries and influential figures around the region. Many COBCOE members in Continental Europe have recently taken part in our project to make Brexit negotiators aware of business realities. They have carefully organised round table discussions that have gone into the report: Brexit the voices of European Business. This report is being launched in Brussels and London in September 2017 and is the first phase in the wider ongoing Brexit Ambition programme. International marketing Through our online newsletter Window into Europe, COBCOE member chambers are given an opportunity to tell the world about their latest news, services, events, developments and achievements. This is distributed by email to COBCOE contacts around the world and promoted through social media and members own networks. Members can also share their news with other members, affiliates and corporate partners via the Quick News newsletter, and by contacting each other. Marketing support Members key international trade and business events are posted on the COBCOE website automatically. On some occasions, we will also send email campaigns to our relevant mailing lists on behalf of members to promote events, services and other developments. We also support our members social media by sharing and retweeting.

Reaching new standards While some COBCOE members were established in the 19 th Century, others are very new. We also have a wide range of sizes within our membership. Through the COBCOE Quality Standard scheme established in 2015, we encourage members to follow best practice and continually work towards raising standards to provide greater benefit for their members. Speakers for events and delegations David Thomas, COBCOE Executive Chairman, and Anne- Marie Martin, COBCOE Chief Executive, are well known and sought-after speakers and contributors to publications. They are pleased to speak at members events wherever possible. Through COBCOE s excellent and extensive contacts with senior figures, we also help members find speakers for their events and delegations and help them to conceptualise internationally focussed events and programmes where needed. Awards programme COBCOE members can enter the COBCOE Chamber of the Year Awards. These prestigious awards showcase and celebrate the achievements and talent of chamber staff across our network. The awards are announced at the flagship COBCOE Awards Dinner held annually in the heart of London and winners benefit from a significant marketing opportunity. There are separate awards for excellence in events management, trade development, corporate social responsibility, membership services and digital communications, plus awards for the Best Small Chamber and overall Chamber of the Year. The COBCOE Make Europe Work! Awards are open to the members of chambers of commerce that belong to or are affiliated to COBCOE. These business awards cover trade development in European markets and breakthrough trade. Shape COBCOE s future Directors and senior staff of our member chambers are eligible to join the COBCOE Board of Directors or other committees and taskforces. Becoming involved at this level means working strategically with COBCOE and helping to steer its future course. Chamber consultancy Over the years, COBCOE has been instrumental in setting up new chambers and helping chambers with restructuring and development. We re always happy to help chamber members with structural, strategic and practical issues.

Market research and intelligence Working in partnership with Kompass International, we provide an online research enquiry service under the Make Europe Work! programme. This bespoke market research service is available to businesses across Europe. Many COBCOE member chambers are working to develop in-market support services and some are already successfully delivering them. COBCOE member chambers in Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia are hosting British Business Centres for the Department for International Trade. We aim to keep our members up-to-date and well informed at all times about major developments. Partnership programme Our corporate partnerships can provide members with access to support, information, services and speakers. We are also partners of the International Business Festival in Liverpool in June 2018 following our award winning delivery at the IFB2016 festival, and will again be encouraging our members to participate in one of the world largest business events. We will be running our Brexit Ambition conference on the opening day of the festival. Initiatives and programmes to support international trade We can not only help to find speakers, but also assist with organising visits and delegations to or from the UK. Through our Make Europe Work! initiative we have undertaken a range of activities providing access to contacts, expertise and crucial information and the following support services: Market research Market visits In-market support Referral to expert advice and support Trade promotion roadshows B2C and B2B meetings Events management and joint events Next generation With an eye to the future, we are encouraging the next generation to engage with the chamber of commerce movement through the COBCOE Young Professionals Network (YPN), established in 2015. This growing group of ambitious young people under the age of 35 is based in London with links across the COCOE network. The YPN holds events and stays in contact via newsletters and Linkedin, and members are also encouraged to take part in COBCOE events and initiatives. The points listed above work together to support the operations and standing of our members, which in turn provides a richer, more meaningful, more prestigious and more valuable experience for the business members of chambers of commerce.

How much does COBCOE membership cost? Membership fees are based on the number of members and organised into the following tiers: Level Number of members Cost / Tier 1 851 + 3600 / 3000 Tier 2 501-850 3000 / 2500 Tier 3 251-500 2200 / 1800 Tier 4 151-250 1040 / 860 Tier 5 51-150 550 / 460 Tier 6 1-50 320 / 270 How to join or find out more If you would like an application form or which to discuss your requirements, please contact Anne-Marie Martin, COBCOE Chief Executive by email: anne-marie.martin@cobcoe.eu Or call our London office: +44 203 290 1468.
