Here is team captain Tonya Hodges tell her story of why she participates in the ALS Walk: "Our team is Chrissy's Crew, we walk in honor of my grandmother, Christine Culbertson (Chrissy for short). She was diagnosed with ALS almost 4 years ago, and is still fighting this awful disease. She first lost ability to talk and eat. She is now in a wheelchair full time and can't do anything for herself. It's so hard for our family to watch her like this. My mom and her sisters take turns taking care of her, while working and trying to make time for their children and grandchildren. The thing I hate most about ALS is not being able to hear my grandmother talk! This year will be my family's second year participating in the Upstate ALS walk. We look forward to raising money and awareness for ALS. We appreciate the ALS Association SC Chapter and all they do! We enjoy raising money for the research for a cure for ALS, so maybe one day we can live in a world without ALS and other families won't have to watch a loved one go through what my Nanny is going through! It has also helped our family to connect with services to help with her needs."
