OUR MISSION: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin s disease, and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world s largest private organization concerned with funding research toward cures for blood cancers. Research Patient & Community Svcs Public Health Professional Education Management & General Fundraising Founded in 1949, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is one of the fastest growing non-profit organizations in the country. Over 76% of every dollar the Society spends is directed towards mission-related activities such as research, advocacy, education and patient services. To date, the Society has awarded $600 million in research grants. Now at $64.7 million annually, the Society s grant programs are among the most prestigious in the fields of hematology and oncology.

IMPACT OF BLOOD CANCERS The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is dedicated to the relentless pursuit of a cure for these cancers. With YOUR support we will fulfill our mission. A cure for leukemia is the gateway to a cure for all cancers! Leukemia, lymphoma, & myeloma (the blood cancers) are cancers that originate in the bone marrow and lymphatic tissues. Every five minutes, someone in the United States learns that they have a blood cancer more than 300 people a day. Despite a 61% decline over the past 30 years, leukemia causes more deaths among children and people under age 20 than any other disease. These cancers have touched the lives of so many of us; 823,000 Americans are presently living with leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma. The good news is that research and treatment efforts are paying off! Approximately 40 different drugs are now being used for treatment. The overall five-year survival rate has tripled in the past 40 years for patients with leukemia. Unfortunately, for other forms of leukemia the news is not so good. For those diagnosed with myeloma, their chance of survival is only 34%. Leukemia is the number one disease-killer of children today, and strikes ten times as many adults as children.
