SWEDA The story so Far..... Somerset & Wessex Eating Disorders Association, better known as SWEDA, is a regional charity supporting people affected by eating disorders across Somerset and the surrounding area. Set up in 1992 by a group of sufferers and carers, SWEDA has since provided a range of services for people struggling with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and compulsive overeating. Our services also provide support to family members & friends engaged in the difficult task of supporting someone close to them. SWEDA is a Pro-Recovery organisation based on the principles of Self-Help. We believe in enabling and empowering individuals, who choose to use our service to aid their recoveries, to live as satisfying a quality of life as possible. We are motivated by the importance of honesty, openness and trust in relationships with all users of the service. Job Title: Fundraising Manager Office Location: Head office, Shepton Mallet Salary: 28,000-30,000 (FTE) Hours: 22.5 hours per week (Tues, Weds, Thurs) hours to be agreed Contract: successful Fixed term for one year, extending to 3 years if Lloyds Bank funding is Leave: 25 days per annum plus bank holidays - pro rata SWEDA has worked hard to build a positive fundraising activity and to embed and foster a fundraising culture across the organisation. We would like you to move this forward. 2017/18 sees SWEDA celebrating 25 years of supporting people affected by eating disorders. A significant grant secured at a pivotal point through the Big lottery Fund has enabled SWEDA to continue to deliver its vital services, re-launch, re-brand and move to new premises in 2016. This fund also provides SWEDA with an opportunity to build income generation capacity that you will head up and oversee. SWEDA is looking for a highly skilled Professional Fundraiser to support the CEO to achieve the organisations fundraising strategy. Experienced in Corporate, Major Donors and Individual Fundraising you will need to have a proven track record in achieving fundraising targets. SWEDA needs a Fundraising Manager to take us to the next level; our current income threshold is 160k PA and we are looking over the next 5 years to increase this to well over 400k PA. We hopefully have an opportunity with Lloyds Bank Foundation through their Invest fund to implement our funding strategy and diversify the charities income streams. In the past we have been successful with Trusts & Foundations and The Big Lottery, we now need to develop other areas of funding through Major Donors, Corporate and individuals being the immediate priority. Job description The Job..... We are looking for a candidate who has the necessary skills & experience to fulfill the following role: JOB PURPOSE Build relationships with companies, major donors and individuals and make presentations on the work of SWEDA Build on our database of donors, keeping them informed and updated of SWEDA campaigns Manage information and record the profile and fundraising activity of donors on our database Manage your own work and ensure that targets are met 4
Account handling: ensuring major donors or companies are happy with their donation scheme and are kept informed of progress and milestones Devise and organise individual giving campaigns, such as Christmas Appeal and Friends of SWEDA campaigns Spot fundraising opportunities and raise awareness of the organisation s work Support the CEO to research fundraising opportunities and write grant applications to charitable trusts or statutory bodies OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Support the aims and objectives of SWEDA Comply with the culture and policies governing the organisation Maintain a positive working relationship with other team members Assist all SWEDA staff/trustees as and when required The post holder will be working in a developing environment & will therefore need an adaptable & flexible approach to their role, which is expected to also develop over time. Person specification Is this you?..... Detail Essential Desired Key Skills Fundraising awards qualifications such as the Certificate in Fundraising and the Diploma in Fundraising Minimum of 3 years experience in fundraising Excellent networking skills, with good connections Highly organised and able to multi task - Self starter able to work on own initiative Excellent communication skills both verbally and written Adept at people management, building long-term relationships with potential donors and persuasively explaining SWEDA s cause. 5
Detail Essential Desired Experience in researching and devising strategies Excellent IT knowledge/experience - Microsoft Office - Apple, Mail chimp, databases, Survey Monkey Excellent written and spoken English Experience of budget management and hitting fundraising targets Experience in collating and presenting statistical data Holds a full driving license The job may require occasional evening and weekend work, including attendance at Trustee meetings. Knowledge: Sensitivity towards & understanding of eating disorders Experience of working within a Charity/Voluntary Sector Sensitivity & awareness of mental health issues 6
