2. General Curriculum Vitae (300 words max) Since 1995 I have been working as Director of the Arrhythmia and Pacing Centre and since 2008 as head of the Division of Cardiology at the National Cardiovascular Institute and Slovak Medical University in Bratislava, Slovakia. I obtained my MD degree (summa cum laude) in 1980 at the Comenius University School of Medicine in Bratislava, Slovakia, where I was inaugurated in 2001 as full professor of internal medicine cardiology. During my postgraduate practice I have gained also extensive clinical experience of over 5-years duration at university clinics in Canada (Montreal), Germany (Hamburg), France (Paris) and Austria (Vienna). My main areas of clinical and scientific interest are cardiac arrhythmias with special focus on catheter ablation, all aspects of atrial fibrillation, sudden death and its prevention and arrhythmogenesis in CAD, hypertension and heart failure. In 1995 I have founded the first specialized arrhythmia centre in Slovakia, which admits annually over 1500 patients who undergo more than 2000 interventions (device implantations and catheter ablations) in adults and children. I have authored or co-authored over 60 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 200 presentations on major cardiologic meetings. As invited speaker I have lectured in several languages including English, Russian, French and German in more than 30 countries. In the years 1997-2003 I was elected for 2 terms President of the Slovak Society of Cardiology. In 2008 I have founded the Slovak Heart Rhythm Association which I chaired until 2014. Currently I serve again as president of the Slovak Society of Cardiology (period 2016-2018). During the period 2011-2013 I served as member of the Board of the EHRA responsible for National Societies. I have been actively involved in the process of creating and reviewing ESC guidelines. I am honorary Member of the Czech, Hungarian and Slovak Society of Cardiology. I am fluent in English, German, French, Russian and several Slavic languages.

3. Previous experience(s) in the EHRA, ESC or your National Cardiac Society? EHRA experience o board member 2011-2013 chair of the National Societies Committee o member of the NS Committee 2015-2007 o member of the Europace 2011 Congress Program Committee o member of the Education Committee 2006-2009 member of the Program Committee of the ESC Congress 2004-2006 past-president of the Slovak Society of Cardiology elected for 2 terms (1997-2003) Slovak Heart Rhythm Association president (2008-2014) Slovak Society of Cardiology president (2016-2018), past president 1997-2003 During my 20+ years of experience in the area of professional medical scientific societies I have designed and coshaped as president: transition of my national society of cardiology from a loose interest group of enthusiasts to a highly profitable, independent and efficient legal entity renowned in the medical community for its competence establishing of the Slovak Heart Rhythm Association on 2007 which was able to demonstrate in the last years its viability nationally and also within EHRA. Furthermore, my activity in the years 2011-2013 as chair of the National Societies in the EHRA board and my efforts in the ICD for Life initiative was crucial for my deeper insight into the aims and functioning of the EHRA. I believe this experience is of value for my activity in the EHRA executive board. 4. Why are you interested in joining EHRA Board (150 words max)? Summary of my ambitions for the EHRA Board membership: To further increase the visibility of cardiac rhythmology as key part of cardiology and of the EHRA as the global world player in this arena. Thanks to decades of working experience across a wide spectrum of healthcare milieus across Europe and North America I have been successful in establishing an efficient up-to-date clinical program in rhythnology in my country. Thanks to this experience I hope to contribute to reducing regional disparities in rhythmology across all ESC countries and around the world. My experience in shaping and developing national societies should be valuable for societies which currently undergo similar transformations. EHRA should offer in these countries strong public support to local key opinion leaders in order to increase arrhythmia awareness both within professional community and general public. My long experience in institutional postgraduate training in cardiology in my country can contribute to EHRA educational activities, especially focused on education of referring physicians.

5. How will you coordinate your EHRA appointment with your daily clinical/research workload? For achieving my goals during my office period I am ready to invest all effort, to sacrifice my free-time and to use my knowledge and language skills to communicate, to increase the comprehensibility and to advance the implementation of EHRA priorities across Europe and the world. A significant part of my daily clinical and teaching workload in the National Cardiovascular Institute will be delegated to my deputy-director and other members of the staff (many EHRA certified rhythmologists) who guarantee the sustainability of quality and quantity and who fully support my present application. The hospital administration has been informed about my ambitions within the EHRA and endorse them. I believe that such managerial organization during the time my potential EHRA position will allow maximal focus on EHRA priorities and will not in any way interfere with the functionality of the Department.
