Hanbleceya (pronounced here as hahn ble chia) comes from the words hanble (vision or dream) and ceya (to cry) in the Lakota Sioux language, meaning vision quest. A Hanbleceya is a spiritual ritual undertaken by an individual in search of insight and direction to discover meaning and purpose in his or her life and future.
Treating Complex Psychiatric Disorders Since 1979 Hanbleceya treats adults suffering from complex psychiatric disorders including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and dual diagnoses. We carefully assess our clients to determine the most appropriate level of care and are able to adjust the services and support needed as they progress through treatment. Our clinical programs provide a full spectrum of treatment choices for individuals and families looking to bring healthy change to their lives. Compassionate and comprehensive treatment is offered within a supportive therapeutic community setting where individuals are given the opportunity to experience genuine connection while developing skills essential for recovery and health. We believe that healing is optimized in a supportive environment that fosters empowerment, responsibility, and social connectedness. What We Treat We began treating Schizophrenia in 1979 with the goal of helping clients learn independent living skills. Over the years we have expanded our unique therapeutic model to treat other diagnoses. Hanbleceya develops comprehensive treatment plans tailored to the specific needs of each client. Family Work is a Cornerstone of Our Treatment Program At Hanbleceya, we strongly believe that family members play a critical and central role in supporting their loved one with creating a life of health, stability, and success. Numerous studies and over three decades of our own clinical experience point directly to a significant increase in the recovery and sustained health of clients whose families remained involved in and supportive of the treatment process. Families are Involved in: Weekly family therapy sessions Biweekly multi-family educational groups Bimonthly family weekends and multi-family support groups Learning effective, healthy and supportive communication skills The empowerment and support of their loved one s independence Developing boundaries to promote the health of the entire family system To ensure the most individualized and effective treatment, all prospective clients and their families participate in our comprehensive two-day admissions assessment process. Whether our clients are self-referred or come to us from other treatment facilities or hospitals, our in-depth admissions assessment process is essential for determining the most appropriate treatment recommendations, including the indicated level of care.

Life Skills and Relationships Lead to Long-Term and Lasting Change Specializing in complex psychiatric conditions, Hanbleceya provides compassionate care to a vastly underserved population. With a typical length of stay exceeding 12 months, our clients have the opportunity to both learn and practice the relationship and life skills needed to take charge of their lives and reach the highest possible level of independence by being an integral member of a supportive community. Educational and Vocational Support: Establishment of achievable educational and vocational goals Job, school, and/or training placement assistance Resume and interview preparation Time management and conflict resolution Support in developing a strong work ethic and commitment to success Community Living: In our semi-independent homes, clients are supported in learning to live cooperatively, manage various household tasks, attain and maintain medication compliance, and develop the skills necessary for independent and quality living. When our son entered the program, we as a family were at rock bottom. Hanbleceya was our last hope. Our son was out of options. Our Vision We believe in the ability to heal when an individual feels seen, welcomed and confirmed in their ability to recover and thrive. Hanbleceya s treatment program offers clients the tools necessary to attain a level of balance and independence relative to their personal capabilities with the confidence and courage to live a healthy, happy, and productive life. The treatment trajectory at Hanbleceya is not based on time, but instead on the acquisition of the relational and life skills necessary for sustained health and success. Hanbleceya is a voluntary program; it is not a locked institution or hospital. Our setting is uniquely different from traditional, institutional treatment formats offered at many hospitals and clinics. We promote a balanced approach to health and recovery by focusing on lifestyle changes of the client and his or her family, utilizing individualized treatment plans designed for systemic change and optimal health.
