Rhodes Recovery provides the perfect setting to support you during this transition. We offer ongoing, evidence-based therapy to reinforce the skills and knowledge you have developed during your initial addiction treatment, helping you re-build the confidence and skills to tackle daily tasks that others may take for granted. This is delivered in a comfortable and safe setting, enabling you to focus on your continued recovery. Our comprehensive programme is delivered by highly trained specialists to assist your continued recovery. Through our approach, we will provide support whilst you re-integrate back into day-today life, and empower you to turn your hopes for a better future, into reality.

3 What is secondary addiction care? Addiction of any type can have a destructive impact on an individual, as well as on their family and friends. When addiction takes hold, what was once important such as family, friends, work and social interests, is dominated by the addiction. Whilst an initial, residential Addiction Treatment Programme provides support to help individuals address their addiction and acquire effective life skills for the future, many people benefit from ongoing support once they have completed their programme, to help them live their life in recovery. This is where Priory s Secondary Addiction Care Service at Rhodes Recovery can help you prepare for your future. The service will help with: Reinforcing and building on the techniques learnt during your intensive care programme Additional therapy to support specific areas of concern, relating to your reintegration back into your everyday life e.g. relationships, traumas and cross-addictions Clients of Rhodes Recovery will typically have completed a 28-day Addiction Treatment Programme, which may have been with Priory or at other treatment centres. We can support those who have experienced any type of substance or behavioural addiction. 4 Rhodes Recovery an environment tailored to your ongoing recovery Rhodes Recovery is located in Mill Hill, a suburb in the London Borough of Barnet, around seven miles from Kings Cross, with good transport links across Greater London. We are within walking distance of Mill Hill East station, just 25 minutes from Central London. It s also in close proximity to local community facilities including shops, a local gym, and various wooded areas and cycle paths, to support your health and fitness. We have 16 single-occupancy bedrooms with a mixture of en-suite rooms and shared bathrooms. Along with a beautifully furnished multi-purpose lounge, we also have two fully functioning kitchens and dining areas, providing a full community setting. With landscaped gardens, outdoor areas for games, and out-buildings for reflection, relaxation and family visits, Rhodes Recovery provides an ideal location and environment to support your transition back into normal life.

5 The Rhodes Recovery Programme Rhodes Recovery provides an extension to the intense primary treatment previously experienced. Its focus is to support clients to live their life in recovery and begin to re-develop skills for the daily tasks that may have become unfamiliar to them. It also addresses the underlying and related issues to addiction and supports with rebuilding family life. Helping re-build life skills We encourage our clients to take an active role in the running of Rhodes Recovery, to help them to re-build a sense of responsibility and independence. This includes preparing meals, shopping and taking control of finances, all of which will be supported as part of your life skills programme. This stage of treatment is designed to support and empower you, as you begin to take responsibility for general living, that may have been affected or even destroyed through addictions. A supportive community The support of your fellow clients, along with our experienced therapy team, will be invaluable throughout this process, and will provide you with a non-judgemental network of support, advice and guidance, along with helping develop your communications skills. The weekends will provide the opportunity for you to reflect on the activities of the week, and re-charge your batteries during free time. This includes film nights where you can relax and unwind with your peers, and the opportunity to meet with friends and family.

6 Therapy designed to help you live your life to the fullest The therapy programme at Rhodes Recovery combines elements which will be familiar to you, following your initial treatment programme, such as relapse prevention and mindfulness. New areas of focus will also be introduced such as complex interrelationships, traumatic experiences through the different stages of your life, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) along with a range of tailored group sessions to focus on areas such as anger management and cross-addictions. Tailored to suit your needs Rhodes Recovery has two group therapy rooms along with a number of one-to-one therapy rooms, enabling clients to combine group therapy with individual therapy time. This will enable you to benefit from both the group dynamic, along with more tailored focus, based on your individual needs, and any concerns which may arise as you progress through your transition. Significant time will be invested on identifying and supporting you with your hopes for the future, with free time set aside for CV development, interview skills, voluntary work, education and building a return-to-work plan.

7 Therapy programme at a glance During your stay at Rhodes Recovery, which will typically last at least three months depending on your individual needs, you will benefit from the following: Community-based structure, supporting a client s transition from a 28-day programme back into their daily lives Combination of group and 1:1 therapy, with hours of therapy a week, tailored to a client s individual needs Free aftercare All Rhodes Recovery clients will receive free aftercare for a year, which commences on discharge. This will include access to therapy support groups once a week, to help you through your first full year, including key milestones in your life such as birthdays, Christmas and other important events. For those who have previously had their 28-day programme at a Priory hospital, you are welcome to continue with the hospital s aftercare programme should it be more convenient. Exploring cross-addictions e.g. relationship, shopping, exercise, work, sex Integrative therapies, drawing on different client-centred therapy approaches e.g. relational, transactional, CBT, psychoanalytic, psychodrama, art, equine Trauma therapy focusing on working with developmental/attachment trauma, single and multiple event trauma and PTSD A focus on other underlying issues such as bereavement and grief, anger management, self-esteem, co-dependency Systemic/family therapy and couples therapy a focus on the client s relationships is fundamental to the programme Support in developing and putting into practice return-to-work plans Re-building life skills in a safe and supportive environment External support meetings such as Alcoholics, Gamblers and Narcotics Anonymous

8 Helping you to re-build your family life Family and friends may be a very important part of your life, and their love and support can be a key driver as you plan your future. A major part of recovery involves developing a strong support network and involving the family is a vital part of the Rhodes Recovery Programme. The impact and destructive behaviours of the addict often become the main focus for the family unit and individual relationships within the family. Members of the family often adopt roles such as the caretaker, scapegoat, rescuer and enabler. These are generally subconscious drives to ensure the safety of the family. So, when the addict starts on the road to recovery the family can fall into disarray again. There is also the strong possibility that families have long distanced themselves from the addicted person. Addiction is often termed as a family illness because subconsciously everyone becomes involved whether they want to or not. This means that the recovery of the family and the relationships between its members are equally as important as the recovery for the addicted individual.

9 Rhodes Recovery family days Family days are integrated into the Rhodes Recovery treatment plan. Our approach will help to address the effects and negative consequences of addiction. It will focus on working towards change within the family system as well as between each family member. The family day involves group therapy sessions, workshops and lectures, and family involvement with the treatment planning. In addition, we offer couples therapy, specifically focusing on improving or changing communications and intimacy for those in romantic relationships. Home visits are also incorporated into the programme, which may include overnight stays. This will allow you to start the process of reintegration back into family life. The Rhodes Recovery team Your stay at Rhodes Recovery will be supported by an experienced and dedicated team, who will guide you through your ongoing recovery journey. The therapy team and healthcare assistants will offer 24/7 support, and a housekeeper will support the running of the house in the communal areas. The team will all meet the rigorous training standards set by Priory, and apply evidenced-based therapy support throughout your programme.

11 Find out more Assessment and admission process Rhodes Recovery is suitable for those who have completed a 28-day addiction treatment programme and now wish to enter secondary care. We encourage an immediate transition into Rhodes Recovery to help with continuity and to minimise the chance of relapse. It is an abstinence-based programme, so for those who may have relapsed, a period of two weeks abstinence will be required. Priory can help those wishing to re-enter primary treatment for a short period of time to ensure readiness for secondary care. Clients are encouraged to attend a day assessment at Rhodes Recovery, enabling them to see the site, get to know the team and ask any questions they may have. The team will also take this opportunity to assess your suitability for the programme. Your family are encouraged to attend part of this, to commence their involvement. Should a day assessment not be possible, a shorter face-to-face assessment, or even a discussion over the phone, can be facilitated.
