Course Description This WMCHealth Cardiovascular Symposium for nurses and allied healthcare professionals will offer a comprehensive update on conditions related to cardiovascular disease including topics related to, Valvular Heart Disease, Inherited and Congenital Heart Disease and Cardiomyopathies. This course will include a review of a comprehensive CV history and exam, including heart sounds, hemodynamics and ECG interpretation, evidence-based guidelines for medical management of hypertension, hyperlipidemia and genetic testing, management of valvular heart disease, treatment of congenital heart disease at birth and in adulthood, managing inheritable cardiac arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies common to women, pulmonary hypertension and cardiac transplantation. Attendees will be able to broaden their understanding of CV disease processes, patient evaluation and treatment using both traditional and newer, advanced technological therapies. The faculty consists of leading experts, physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, in the field of cardiovascular care. Didactic presentations will be followed by challenging case reviews with an audience participation system. This conference will provide an opportunity for healthcare professionals to update their knowledge in caring for patients with CVD, valvular and congenital heart disease as well as cardiomyopathies and pulmonary hypertension. Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this conference attendees will be able to: Perform a comprehensive and focused cardiovascular H&P including having a basic understanding of heart sounds, ECG interpretation, and identify risk factors for sudden cardiac death. Define recommendations by evidence-based guidelines for the medical management of lipids and hypertension as well as genetic testing Understand the etiology and management of valvular heart disease (including hemodynamics), congenital and inherited heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and cardiomyopathies common to women and for pulmonary hypertension. Identify factors leading to cardiac transplantation and understand the pre and post-transplant process related to patient care. Target Audience Health care providers including NPs, PAs, nurses, CV techs and other health care professionals interested in learning more about cardiovascular disease management.
