Technical Meeting on the Security of Nuclear and other Radioactive Material in Transport IAEA Headquarters Vienna, Austria 9 July 2018 13 July 2018 Ref. No.: EVT1703390 Information Sheet A. Introduction This meeting will provide a forum for experts from regulatory bodies, operator organizations and other international organizations to share information on key ideas and topics related to the security of nuclear and other radioactive material in transport. The meeting is expected to achieve a better understanding of the current and future direction of transport security at the national, regional, and international levels, by giving participants an opportunity to share experiences, good practices, and lessons learned from the practical application of the current International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recommendations and guidance on the security of nuclear and other radioactive material in transport. It also aims to identify key challenges and opportunities to address those challenges for coordination of international transport and for the management of the transport safety security interface. B. Objectives The purpose of the meeting is to bring together transport security regulators, operators, and other experts to share information on key ideas and topics related to the transport security of nuclear and other radioactive material. The meeting will discuss advances in, or new uses of, technologies, successes and challenges in implementing the national nuclear security regime, issues related to the safety and security interface during transport, challenges in developing national transport security regulations, difficulties faced by Member States during regional and international transports, and other topics. The IAEA will share its progress since the last Technical Meeting on this topic held in 2016 and provide a glimpse into the future of its transport security programme.

Page 2 C. Target Audience The target audience for the meeting includes policy-makers and representatives from regulatory bodies, law enforcement agencies, academic institutions, shippers and carriers, all of whom should have relevant knowledge of and experience in the field of security of nuclear and other radioactive material in transport. D. Working Language English E. Application Procedure Designations should be submitted using the attached Participation Form. Completed requests should be endorsed by the competent national authority (e.g. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Mission to the IAEA, or National Atomic Energy Authority), or by an organization invited to participate, and returned through the established official channels. They must be received by the IAEA not later than 18 May 2018. Designations received after that date or applications sent directly by individuals or by private institutions cannot be considered. Designating Governments and invited organizations will be informed in due course of the names of the selected candidates and at that time full details will be given on the procedures to be followed with regard to administrative and financial matters. F. Financial Support No registration fee is charged to participants. The IAEA is generally not in a position to bear the travel and other costs of participants in the meeting. The IAEA has, however, limited funds at its disposal to help meet the cost of attendance of certain participants. Such assistance may be offered upon specific request to normally one participant per country provided that, in the IAEA s view, the participant on whose behalf assistance is requested will make an important contribution to the meeting and to his or her State s nuclear security arrangements. The application for financial support should be made at the time of designating the participant. If Governments wish to apply for support on behalf of one of their experts, they should address specific requests to the IAEA to this effect. G. Venue The meeting will be held at the IAEA s Headquarters in Vienna, Austria and will start at 10:00 on Monday, 9 July 2018. Participants are advised to arrive one hour prior to the convening time of the meeting to allow for timely registration. Participants will need to present an official photo identification document in order to be admitted to the Vienna International Centre (VIC) premises. The following IAEA web page can be accessed for more detailed information on Vienna and the VIC http://www-pub.iaea.org/iaeameetings/generalinfo/guide/vic
