1. Key purpose To reduce the incidence of smoking in Tasmania by: Managing the Quit program to ensure achievement of the program goals Managing and optimising investment into social marketing/media campaigns Assisting in development and delivery of advocacy programs supporting healthy lifestyles and smoking cessation

2. About the role Position title: Department: Status: Hours of Work: Location: Reports to: Director Quit Tasmania Quit Services Permanent Full Time (3 year contract) 1.0 FTE (76 hours per fortnight) Hobart CEO Cancer Council Tasmania Key Duties: 1. Manage and lead staff to ensure goals of the Quit program to reduce the rate of smoking amongst all Tasmanians are achieved 2. Develop and deliver Commonwealth and State funded programs relating to reducing the risk of cancer related to smoking 3. Build strong collaborative relationships with relevant government, health and community service organisations in support of the Quit program goals 4. Develop and lead advocacy work in support of the organisation s mission to reduce the incidence of smoking in Tasmania (including public speaking and representing CCT and the Quit program in public forums as required) 5. Represent CCT and Quit Tasmania on relevant internal and external committees as required 6. In conjunction with the CEO establish strong working relationships with external partners and stakeholders to coordinate and integrate Cancer Council and Quit Tasmania activities 7. Prepare reports, funding acquittals and recommendations to the CEO, government, stakeholders and external bodies as required 8. Monitor, measure and report in a timely manner on strategic and operational issues, opportunities and development plans and achievements within agreed formats and timeframes.

3. Selection criteria Qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills (Selection Criteria) Expertise 1. Excellent report writing, written and verbal communication skills including capacity to undertake public speaking engagements and present to media; 2. Sound knowledge, understanding and capacity to develop project plans and achieve project deliverables; 3. Sound knowledge and understanding of the development and delivery of social media and marketing campaigns; 4. Capacity to plan and undertake advocacy programs to influence change; 5. Business management skills including capacity to develop, report and deliver outcomes within budget; 6. Appropriate qualifications and experience in a relevant field. Creativity and reasoning 1. Demonstrated capacity to research issues and develop position statements and advocacy strategies; 2. Ability to be innovative in the development and promotion of strategic programs and activities; and 3. Proven conceptual, analytical and evaluation skills including data analysis and research interpretation. Collaboration and leadership 1. Capacity to build strong and collaborative relationships with government, health and community service organisations; and 2. Well developed leadership and people management skills. Special conditions 1. The position will involve some intrastate travel and occasional interstate travel.

4. Conditions of employment Director Quit Tasmania (Permanent Full Time, Three Year Contract) Award/Contract: Cancer Council Tasmania Employee Collective Agreement 2007. (Currently under review) Remuneration: The role will be paid as SCHCADS Level 8, between Paypoints 1 and 3. The package range will be between $81,129 and $82,454. Salary is comprised of: Level 8 Paypoint 1 Base $73,191 Superannuation 6,953 Leave loading 985 Total $81,129 Level 8 Paypoint 3 Base $74,377 Superannuation 7,076 Leave loading 1,001 Total $82,454 Cancer Council Tasmania employees are able to salary sacrifice to full value as allowed by the Australian Taxation Office to Not for Profit entities. Salary is payable fortnightly. Leave Entitlements: Hours of Work: Training and Development: Health and Fitness: Probation Period: Four weeks per annum This is a 76 hours per fortnight position. It is CCT s desire that every employee be given professional development opportunities. CCT provides in house and external training and development opportunities. CCT does not insist on employees undergoing a pre-employment medical examination; however it is a condition of employment that in accepting this position you are able to perform the inherent requirements of the position. The appointment to this position is subject to a probationary period of six months.

5. How to apply for the position Cancer Council Tasmania uses a merit selection process which means it selects preferred candidates for positions based on their demonstration of the skills, abilities and attributes to meet the requirements of the position. This is demonstrated through application, interview, practical exercises and referee checks. Candidates are short-listed from the original pool of applicants. The Selection Panel will then interview the short-listed candidates and determine the preferred candidate after referee checks. Background of the organisation Background information: Cancer Council Tasmania Cancer Council Tasmania is a Not For Profit, independent organisation working to minimise the incidence and impact of cancer on all Tasmanians. It is estimated that 1 in 2 Tasmanians will be diagnosed with cancer by age 85. To reduce that incidence, and the impact of cancer in our local community, Cancer Council Tasmania: Invests in cancer prevention programs that educate the community about lifestyle factors that can decrease the risk of cancer Funds local cancer-related research projects and Provides high quality support services for people with cancer, their families, carers and friends Provides a respected voice for the needs of people affected by cancer. Our work could not be achieved without the generosity of the Tasmanian community and the support of our dedicated volunteers. Over 90% funded by public donations, fundraising activities underpin our support services, prevention programs and cancer research funding. All money raised and donated to our organisation stays in Tasmania to directly assist our local community. For more information please check the Cancer Council Tasmania website: www.cancertas.org.au Background information: Quit Tasmania Since Quit Tasmania was establishment in 1995, there has been considerable progress in reducing the harm that tobacco causes in our community. Advances to reduce smoking rates include legislation to protect people from second-hand smoke, phasing out tobacco advertising, banning of smoking in workplaces, exposing tobacco industry practices, introducing plain packaging and most recently a national 12.5% recurrent increase in tobacco excise that commenced 1 December 2013. Our main functions include; social marketing campaigns to educate people on the dangers of smoking and encourage quitting and providing information and support to those who want to quit smoking through the Quitline telephone support service. We also provide information and resources to the wider community so that they may help promote a smoke free lifestyle to all Tasmanians Since July 2012, the Cancer Council Tasmania receives funding from the State Department of Health and Human Services to manage Quit Tasmania.
