Preparing Our State for Alzheimer s Disease and Related Dementias Dementia by the Numbers Fewer than half of people with dementia have received a diagnosis. In Medicare $, it costs 3x as much to care for someone with Alzheimer s. In Medicaid $, the ratio is 19x1.
