Burbury Park Childminder Referral Scheme Have you got the skills to be a specialist childminder? Do you have vacancies? Could you work 1 Saturday a month or during school holidays for school aged children? We also need childminders for odd days during the week for children from birth to age 18 for short term care. We can arrange for an informal discussion to talk about the criteria you need to meet to offer placements for us. The referrals we receive are wide and varied and cover a whole range of reasons for needing short term childcare. The placements are as unique as you and your setting is. Your designated co-ordinator will be there to support you and the family placed with you. They will help you offer quality places for vulnerable children and families and visit you regularly to support the placement for all involved. Payment for referrals will come from Birmingham City Council. Please give us a call on 0121 554 9678 to book a visit from your area co-ordinator. Funded by 7

We get lots of phonecalls and texts asking similar questions 1. Variations please refer to the EYFS but note that variations to your ratios are never allowed for new business or for more than 6 children under 8. 2. Twins you must have 2 available spaces to take twins as new business. 3. Social worker placements If a social worker contacts you to care for a child ask them to phone us at Burbury Park this is to ensure you get paid and to safeguard yourself and the children. 4. Car seats please ensure you are using the correct seats for the age and weight of each child you care for. Take a look at this website http://www.goodeggcarsafety.com/ for up to date information. 5. DSL training we will inform all childminders by text when we know that DSL refresher training is being put on we will also update our website. 6. Children being left with other childminders if you leave the children you care for with another childminder or assistant (for any reason) you MUST have written permission from parents to do this remember that assistants are only allowed to care for children for a maximum of 2 hours per day and they MUST have paediatric first aid. 8

DBS s From the 1 st of September 2014 new childminders, anyone new to your setting or if one of your children turns 16, now have to pay for their own DBS and sign up to the update service. You complete the DBS through http://www.ofsteddbsapplication.co.uk and subscribe to the update service at https://www.gov.uk/dbsupdate-service To avoid having to pay twice DO NOT use any other websites to apply for your DBS. If you registered as a childminder before this date you do not need to update your DBS (an exception to this is if you do funded placements for Burbury Park Childminder Centre - please speak to your network co-ordinator for more details) Burbury Bear has been travelling round with our office staff over the summer holidays would the children you look after like to take him somewhere or look after him for a few days? Meet Burbury Bear Have a look at our website to see where he s been already www.burburyparkchildminders.co.uk/burburybear.html 9

Informing Ofsted about changes There is not a definitive you must tell Ofsted about list - It is up to the individual to decide what to tell Ofsted. However, it is really important that you keep Ofsted informed about any changes that have happened in your provision or to you or your family. You MUST notify Ofsted within 14 days of any occurrence but it is best to inform them when or immediately after something happens. An example of things that need to be notified to Ofsted are - Health changes eg if you become ill, are due to have an operation or changes to medication requirements since you completed your health declaration. Any significant event that might affect your suitability to care for children. This covers a lot of things and is one of the main reasons why childminders receive actions for not informing Ofsted about changes. People moving out of your house eg your partner or child moving out (not if they are going to Uni where they come and go during holidays). Any significant event that might affect the suitability of any person over 16 years old who lives or works on the premises eg if the police have been called to an incident (not necessarily during working hours) or if they have a long term illness or diagnosis. Any safeguarding incidents on or off the premises involving childminded children eg losing a childminded child or a child going missing. Including accidents like broken bones and injuries that a child has to attend hospital for. If you are planning major changes to the house eg an extension 10

Ofsted s advice is to over-notify if you think I wonder if I need to inform Ofsted then you probably do need to let them know! The best way is to email enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk It is much better to have evidence that you have informed Ofsted in writing. It is advisable to keep a copy of the email and Ofsted s confirmation of receipt. Keep the notification in your file ready to discuss with your inspector during your next inspection. Ofsted may phone you or visit if they need more information.
